Sorry murph, not alot of help, I'm afraid.

I used the Haynes Joke book and concluded that the wiring was a mish mash of both diagrams (up to 93 and from 93). Sort of worked out what I needed to get the heater working and it did!
Made some notes which I've since lost, and then replaced the 2 litre wiring with the GSi wiring.............. and now I have constant hot air on the driver's side and freezing cold on the passenger's side, no twiddling of dials makes any difference. Bugger!

As I'm having to use it on a daily basis, I'm reluctant to take the dash out (yet again). I remember it being a pain, but just wish I could find those bloody notes.

I couldnt get the bloody thing out!  I ended up breaking the thing so I just took the top part in the hope that I can make a hybrid box that blows air in the right directions.  I'm thinking of getting a rotary type heat control knob from a different car and grafting it into one of the Senny heat control positions.  Then all I need to do is get it hooked up to the existing matrix and bobs yer auntie's live-in lover!

Sounds good in theory but I bet it wont work  :-\

I was thinking that too, mate - I do have some more heater controls from a Senator, and will give it another go at some point, but if that doesn't work, then as you say, switch from a different motor. Vectra, most likely.

Remove one and bolt in the other.
The difficult part is getting the heater controls to work.  :-\

Exactly what Murph said.

The Carlton and Senator are basically the same shell/running gear (sixes, anyway), with different outer panels. I think front doors and boot lid are the same, though.

Flash, yours are probably ABS club leads - apparently they were designed to fit the distributor even if it was 180 degrees out, and not stretch the leads.

The red leads are OE IIRC.
A GSI is for life, not just for powerslides.

*coughs - not exactly designed to be - more closer to someone who was instrumental in getting them manufactured had his dizzy 180 degrees out and found the std leads too tight so had em make em a bit longer  ::) when said person changed the timing chains he realised it was wrong!!!!!
