Quote I'm sure i've seen your car in Lincoln not that long ago, or at least a very smart white GSi just like it.  Coming off Outer Circle Road & heading towards Cherry Willingham, must be a couple of months ago at least, i nearly crashed the school bus drooling over it!!!!

might have been me ?often go to lincoln  i'll look out for buses headind towards me :) theres not many GSI's round here, theres only 3 other carltons where i live a knankard 1.8 & 2x 2.0  ones realy nice  looks like an old bloke thats had it from new & looked after it  seen where he lives nere me i'll stop and talk if i see him out working on it (& give him the WWW. TC :)

Excellent  looking motor - mines a while 24v GSi but I've still got some work to do tidying it up. One question is wheels. On mine the suface is pitted. Saw you'd used caustic and steel wool. Can you give me any more info. I guess you got them relacquered?

cheers  no not relacquered them  stripped old surface off using caustic ( bubbles up after 15mins washes off with water also dosn't harm the tyres so no need to remove then )
then i used a mouse sander to get rid of any kerbing /marks /pits  went on to a finer grit
last got a metal polishing drill bit wheel & polishing wax block to bring them shiney again  took some time but worth it
not quite finished could do with some more this summer

Na ! this one was only a on/off type  so i took/bastardized the eye ball spot one & put the timer circuit on to the vectra one
so functions like it should  stays lit for 15sec or so when door shuts

nope not the anti dazzle type :(

Couldnt a capacitor be fitted into a standard unit to make it fade off?
