I swapped over to Google Chrome earlier today and everything is working fine so far :)

I need to get the refresh function back somehow though !

It's very strange, every time I changed something, it worked OK for a few hours and then the "show unread posts" would stop working again ???

Watch this space ;)

Refresh on chrome is the clockwise arrow circle ,to the left of the address bar (to the right of the page back, page forward tabs)

I've come to the conclusion that just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that somebody is not out to get me :'(

The men in white coats say they have not touched your computer  ;D
(they visit me regularly  ;))
are you sure there's new posts to read  :-\
Happy to put a fresh install of windows on it fort you ,or...
I could do an new install on a different Hard drive (so your original drive remains unchanged)

have you tried manually updating windows (you said it's set for automatic updates)
This is not a "manual is better than automatic" dig,
if you click start>programs
windows update should be near the top of the list,
click on it and a webpage opens to microsoft update
it will scan your PC briefly then give you the option to "custom" update
thinking about this now.... are you running XP sp3  ???
If you go to control panel , double click "system" it will tell you there (along with CPU type and ram)
another thing to check is to run BELARC adviser here clicky, that should give you a wealth of info about your PC, what updates are missing etc.

Thanks for the offer Dave but it's been fine for the past 2 days since I swapped to Google Chrome :)

I reckon that it was Google out to get me to stop me using the old version :(

The men in white coats agree with me and are now keeping my bedroom door locked to prevent any Google hit-men getting to me while I'm sleeping.

Teddy and I feel safer now :)

no problem, hope it stays sorted till xp ends.
then would be a good time to upgrade system & hardware

I did as you suggested and went to the start>programs which confirmed that I had 'Automatic updates' turned on but ran the check anyway and it found 6 'high priority' updates were needed :o

Selling someone a dodgy 'Automatic' is a dirty trick >:( it looks like Microsoft are out to get me as well :'(
(Teddy has gone and hidden under the bed)

Yes, it is XP service pack 3
