Grundig mcd10
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:29:32 PM »
I've got a grundig mcd10 in the boot and recently I've got hold of a 4870.  I've plugged it all in and there is power to the CD player as I can hear it making noises but I'm
Getting 'NO COMMU' showing on the display.  Obviously the 4870 cannot communicate with the CD player but I'm not sure why.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

That's helpful.  I removed a JVC unit when I replace the 4870 possibly the box that is used to communicate with the CD player has been unplugged.  What does it look like do you have a picture at all?

Sorry, no: Mine is still buried behind the dash somewhere.

Maybe someone else has a photo. of it ?

If you can hear noises from the CD unit when you select CD on the head unit, then it's still connected.

The 4870 RDS 'C' version has a miniature stereo jack socket input from the CD unit which carries the audio; the 'C' version would need the plug harness modifying to provide this.

It's a black box, about 4" x 2" x 1" (possibly with 2 strips of black foam padding wrapped round )with a big black or blue coms plug out (20 pins or so,looks like old din plug)that runs 4 foot to another plug down by the engine ECU, then  plugs into another blue lead to the boot. Also the box has 2 "ISO"  :-\ plugs, which plugged into the original cage ,to plug into head unit.(the grundig slides in/out the original cage connecting at the back)
The wiring for the 2 "ISO" plugs that plug into the sterio unit look standard BUT there not. so If your loom has been cut to fit aftermarket audio, then you need to identify whats what .
(theres also an issue with perminent 12v+ and switched accessory 12v+ which may have had their connections swapped over because the 2"international standard" sterio 8 pin plugs are NOT wired the same for some models/brands of car)
AKA : spaghetti junction

If the above post contains spelling mistakes / grammatical errors / poor use of the quote function / a very weak retort, or is generally shyte; it's because I'm feked on a cocktail of drugs, homebrew and carb cleaner.sorry
