Anyone using an inverter?
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:23:36 PM »
Hi, has anybody used an inverter to power 240v stuff like LCD tv and play station? I'm just about to start my project and am considering going big!!!
Cheers

They drain a lot of power out of battery ;)

Yes I've heard. I'm thinking about using a second battery as well. Possibly.

A good quality inverter will run at about 80/90% efficiency, so for every 100 Watts of 240 volts power you will pull roughly 10 Amps from the battery.

About the same as headlights on dip.

Dont even think about stopping the engine whilst using the inverter. You may not get started. It draws massive amounts out of the battery. Engine running only. Are you sure all the wiring can take the massive current draw? It wasn't designed to do that?

LED tvs don't use much electricary ,with a second BIG battery and caravan charging relay, wired correctly,i see no issues, providing the inveerter turns off at a set low voltage (to avoid damage to tv)
