Unfortunately, the last time I checked (some years ago) they were no longer available :(

If you are talking about dodgey buttons on the "face off" I swapped some of the rubber cones around so the good ones are on the more important buttons.

That is a good reason for keeping the old face offs. Wonder if similar are available off newer radio fronts (buttons) btw. About three years ago I phoned for the Grundig spares in Germany and they said no chance (obsolete). Nice conversation though ().
1993 2.0 CD(X)i Auto Estate (Rioja Red very little tin worm & reasonable paint).
RIP - 1992 2.0 CDXi Manual Estate (Spectral Blue with far too much tin worm, now only parts).

Old age means wondering: Do I really have to struggle to become an expert in something I might never need to do again.

I kept the Grundig 4870 out of my Diplomat and fitted it to my GLi estate. Saves arsing around changing a cd whilst driving, when on my own. I still play tapes as well as cds.

The button to switch between CD & radio on a 4870 is above the face off unit & NOT affected by the nipple issue. The nipple issue affects going between pre-set stations.

Unfortunately I can't answer why you it won't switch back to radio unless you're hitting the wrong button.

It's been a long time since I used the 4870 so I assumed that to switch back to radio, you pressed, for instance the FM or AM button which is on the 'face off' section :-[

I can see that the button to switch to CD is not on the 'face off' section; are you saying that pressing the CD button again returns it to radio ?

I've looked at the head unit instructions and can't find anything that tells you how to return to Radio from CD ???

To switch from radio to cd and vice versa, the button with Cr on it, needs to be pressed. Under that button should be the letters CD, providing they haven't rubbed off. I've been to my car to check ;)

Correct. Press it to go to CD mode, press it again to return to the last station you were listening to (pre-set or not).

I can see that the CR/CD switch is mounted on a small PCB so maybe the problem is an 'iffy' contact on that switch.
