Stemo's Barge...
« on: June 27, 2011, 11:20:21 PM »
So this is a bit of an old thread I dragged out of the Hello section....

Its a 1992 2.0 Gli Auto, bought it back in April 2010 from eBay for the pricely sum of 230. It had been sitting on a driveway for 18 months as the elderly guy that owned it previously had passed away, before that he had new discs and pads fitted, new cam belt, plugs and leads and 4 new tyres and a new spare and a full new exhaust system, so all in all was a very good car for the money! Needs a little tidying up, usual dents/scratches for a 19 year old car but other than that in beautiful condition. Just had to replace the windscreen wipers and it flew through the MOT.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update:

Had it for over a year now and it's been a pleasant one at that! Have had to do minor things to her to keep her going, new radiator and normal service items. Had to do a little welding on the chassis leg and the sill but other than that it's been spot on. Finally got around to lowering it over the weekend as well. It's only 40mm but that's enough for me, here's some pictures...

It has settled down a little more as these were taken just after I'd finished. Should hopefully have colour coded a set of mirrors by the weekend as well. It's taken a while but its getting there  :).

That's just what I thought, (moody skies, depth of field etc...) Me thinks Stemo is familiar with photography.

Got a mate I work with who's into photography, got all the kit and does brochure work.

Getting him to do shots of my car (when it's finished!!)

Sorry, hi-jacking done  ;) Looks great.

I may be a little familiar  :P. Photos 3, 4 and 5 were done on a photoshoot with a friends car last summer. (shameless self plug www.slitwristphotography.co.uk)...

Yours will look blinding, should be a brilliant set of shots!

Cheers.

This looked great at the meet!

I used to have a Gli Auto but it was a pre face lift and in a bit of a state.

It's even got the electric ariel too!

Cool!

Is this car lowered atall?  Or is it just your photography skills? Nice website btw.

It is yeah, only 40mm but really helps tighten it up round corners. I need to get some newer pictures of it in that car park sometime to be honest.

Cheers  :)

What's everyones thoughts on cut spring lowering?

It also now has no back seats and two of these in the front, I say now, it's been nearly a year now but I'm a bit behind updating this..

Clears ok, even on full lock it doesn't touch with compression.

Next on the list is to get the back down to match  :P. Then I have a longer term idea which will hopefully come to fruit, but in the meantime probably get some omega rims to suit the lows.

I completely forgot to actually update this! I didn't cut the springs, I had a set of JohnnyA spec coilovers made up for the front, 350lb springs, Spax PSX adjustable shockers. Have had the back down for a little while too, on Spax RSX Golf coilovers so it sits far better now  8). Needed some new rear tyres as well so bought some CDX rims as it worked out cheaper!

Handles like a dream now!

I also managed to acquire the GSi interior parts I was after so now the back seat is the black part leather with matching door cards all round, with the black buckets up front it suits well. There will be more updates soon!  :)
