Got myself a Lotus Omega (at last)
« on: May 09, 2009, 01:28:20 PM »
Finally tracked down a Lotus Omega / Carlton that wasn't a stupid price. It's in a place called Heidelberg & its somewhat tatty & a non-runner (electrical problems....my speciality) , so I'm going to have to collect it on a transporter. This is going to be my next project & also means I'll be selling my last one, so I'll probably put it up on eBay, any suggestions as to price???

It's immaculate, ABS MkIII chip, Jetex Exhaust, Peter Harrison chains, Richard Brunt de-cats, almost completely restored + new MOT ticket (no advisories).

Think you would be better off on PistonHeads or similar.
I have seen worse go for around 3K

Nice Geezer. It's got "Northern Ireland" written all over it.  ;)
Get it on piston heads I'd say around 2k for a quick sale.

From a LC owner to a LO owner. There's no such thing as a cheap Lotus Carlton (Omega). If you want any help give us a shout. I've even got a tech 1 now with the correct cartridge if it will help with the problems.  ;)

Thanks for that Doz, I've just had a look at Pistonheads, never seen it before, what's with all the Omega/Carlton Gsi's in Ireland?? Are they sought after over there or something?

I think what I'll do is write an ad on Auctiva & stick it up on eBay for 10 days & see what happens (I'll put in a link for Totalcarlton, of course). Should I put it on Irish eBay as well, or just post it on eBay UK?

At least with eBay I can put a nice long description of everything done & up to 24pics.

there sought after over here as drift wagons - which is why i bought my yok, thing is I got to really like it and after drifting it here and there i decided to restore mine - any rwd cars are welcome over here and you'll get more than if sold in britain
prime examples:
1) i bought a 3251 sport for 870 brought it home and done nothing to it - sold on for 2175
2) bought 2 ae86 twin cams in england for 5k once again done nothing to them bar a tidy up and sold 1 for 4500 and the other (which was in really good nick) for 6400
3) got my current GSi with LC rep kit from bonny scotland for 500 - at a drift meet 1 night a guy really wanted it from me and offered 1500 for it (it had no interior apart from bucket seat) at that point I was already considering restoring her and it got me thinking how much I would get if I did fix her all up so kept it.

so it's not that carltons are sought after - its cause it rwd and can go round corners sideways ;D

Auto, too lazy for anything else, its got a new AR35 (only about 5k.miles) I got from Germany plus a code KZ ecu. What's nice is the fact that you can drive according to your mood, cruising lazily 'round local streets or fast A road driving & the KZ does all the work.

OK, thanks, I'll post it on eBay in half an hour & see how it goes. Like you I've never seen the attraction of a manual gearbox & clutch, too much like hard work. I've had lots of autos, many Rover V8s (SD1 & P6's) Jaguars (4.2 XJ6 & the V12 E-type) Fords (Capri V6 & Mustang Mach1) all autos, tried a Rover P6 V8 manual for a bit...didn't like it. Oh, well, enough nostalgia, off to eBay..............

insaneco when i used to export cars out there there was a simple questions if yes,the answer was sold
RWD?
LSD?
powerfull?
carltons.s13/14 early toyta,serrias etc.

sold
if it doesnt have a lsd,how cheap can it be brought
,i think i could be to blame for the prices of cav gsi and carltons going up so quickly.
good if you have already got one mind, not good if you wanna buy one
in 07/08 i sent over/had dealering with 43 cav gsi,13 gte astra and about 60 gsi carltons.
(bet thats made me unpopular)

thats why i know total vauxhall were lying when they said how many were left in england.coz i still aint export most of them!

in fact last week me and my friend over there were talking about import cav gsi as there worth more here now in nice nick,
strange world!

Reading this makes me wonder what my Carlton would be worth in Ireland.  12v Gold-Top with manual box and working LSD.  Stainless exhaust (Scorpion), Bilstein dampers & Eibach springs.  Redstuff pads & Goodridge hoses.  Recent new GM lower arms, new drop links and new track arms.  Very very good shell, no rot that i've ever found.  Just looks terrible because it's about 5 different colours, no interior bar 2 front seats (reclining buckets on original subframes) & a dash and no bodykit apart from GSi front & rear bumpers!!  It's a great drift machine & ColonelK will vouch for how well it drives.

Not that i really want to sell of course, just interested in what someone might pay for it if it was for sale!!!

That is a real beauty; If it were mine I wouldn't want to let it go and certainly not under 2,500 !

I'm with you all the way regarding automatics ;)

That ad has got me bloody tempted myself  ;)

Silly question, why does the Insurance valuation have the car year down as 1970?
