I got one for a V6 Omega with A/C, and like Mr. Mad's, it fills the battery tray.

Bigger CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) than the "proper" Carlton GSi24V battery, and the alternator charges it well.

It's a Varta black thing, and only a tenner more than the "proper" one listed for the Carlton, £80 from Battery Solutions in York.

It's not the A/H you need to worry about too much, but the CCA is the figure you need to check - basically, the bigger the CCA rating, the better. If I could tell you what mine is , I would, but can;t be arsed to remove the battery for a quick looksee! Try Varta website?

Bear in mind that the S6 engines are heavy to turn over, heavier than the V6, so why GM saw fit to use smaller batteries is beyond me - mind you, alot of what GM used in the 80's and 90's was stuff that was as cheap as possible!

The 4 pot should be OK, but would probably benefit a larger battery?

In my experience, it's worth checking the "mains" wiring from battery to starter and alternator, including all earth connections.
They might look OK, but the connections get brittle, get rotten and a few strands breaking off here and there do make a differece.
I renewed all mine, and it did work. Wink

At a Northern meeting, a few of us tried to check out my problems, (poor starting, easy to drain the battery etc), and all the readings we did were spot on, but we couldn't check for a dead cell - a professional guy should have the gear to do that

Like I say - Battery Solutions on Leeman Road in York sorted me out, and for only £80, was worth every penny. http://www.batterysolutionsyork.co.uk/
He checked my 18 month old battery that was giving me greif to show me that there was at least one dead cell, and as it had always been like it, I assume I must have bought a dud battery (wish I could find the receipt for it!), so when you buy a new battery, make sure it is OK and keep the receipt!

Mick

Keep away from those Vauxhall batteries, they changed supplier a while ago and they are very cheaply made rubbish (a few have said it)
I went to buy one when I thought mine was knackered, the useless salesman had no idea which to give me and in the end sold me the biggest they had (about 74AH), I took it home and compared it to the original VX one on it and as Pete says the CCA was much lower, in other words it is less likely to start the engine in difficult conditions.
I took it back, they couldnt supply any battery with similar CCA to original, the whole nasty range had similar AH to old range but less CCA.
I demanded my money back and went to my local car shop and paid £75 for the best quality they could get me and Im glad I did.

Low CCA means lower maximum electricity delivery rate you could say, and if you try to overwork an under specified battery itll probably end up with bent plates and die.
