First remove the headlight switch - switch on the sidelights, then slip a small screwdriver into the recess underneath the piece that turns. There's a small tab in there that will allow you to pull the knob off (oo-err). Once that's off you will see two tabs that need to be squeezed together, allowing you to remove the main body of the switch.  Now depress the tab on the wiring connector to unclip it from the surround.

Remove the screw that's in the top of the recess for the switch.

Now remove the headlight leveller control switch and the blanking plate below it, then unclip the wiring connector as before.

Remove another screw from the hole.

Remove the surround from the cigarette lighter and remove the screws that you can now see bihind it.

Remove the two switches for the heated seats (or the blanking plates) and remove another screw.

Remove the screw that is located in front of the trip comp (at the top, screws in vertically)

Remove the column shroud.

Remove the two screws from above and in front of the clocks.

Remove the two screws that are situated either side of the column - they have tiny little caps on them wich like to ping off so take care not to lose them.

You should now be able to get the surround from around the clocks, which will give you room to get to the back of the trip computer - gently push it out from behind and unplug it.

The clocks are secured with 3 screws - one at either end and one midway along the top edge  - once you remove these you will be able to pull them forward to unlip the wiring connectors (x3) from the back.

I think thats about it but if I missed anything someone will shout! Grin

thanks for that! Grin i would have just gone in blind and wrenched things of with a screwdriver! hoooooooooge help there mate! i'll post pics of the whole proccess as I do it for future reference if it would help? I think i need to do some repairs to the back of the clock too. even though i replaced the multi-connector by the airbox, the clocks still go funny (speedo not reading/pulsing and temp/fuel gauge not working) but a sharp tap on top of the dash above the clocks gets them working again....untill next time!

It's a 2.6 dude so there wont be one there - but for those that have a 2.0... fair point!

had the clocks out in less than 10 min thanks to that awsome description! took the individual dials out and noticed that the 3 pin connector under the rev counter looked a bit loose. I took it apart and crimped the female part so it made a better connection. my fuel gauge did work when I started the car up after a test fit, but only time will tell if it's fixed (it used to work for a few days, then out of the blue it would stop for ages!) but really I just wanted the speedo/temp gauge working properly. I know how many miles I get for a given amount of petrol so the fuel gauge would just be a billy bonus. weird thing is, after fitting a replacement multi-function computer (cheers "the duke"!!) the clock still doesn't move on from whatever time you set it to! it's not "ticking" so to speak. but how does a digital clock get stuck? do all the 1's do a runner?

After you set the clock you have to press the raised button to "start" it.

Glad you got it sorted (hopefully) matey!

stupid fuel gauge...didn't want it anyway! and having taken the clocks out 3 times in total I've come to the conclusion that the plastic steering column shroud is the work of Satan Angry

here's some pics I took while I dismantled it all. at least anybody who needs to do this in the future will be able to see which screws to take out and where.

the one from above the clocks on the right

and the left

insert small flat bladed screwdriver here to release light switch knob Grin snigger snigger Roll Eyes

squeeze these 2 tabs together and pull out the light switch unit

here is the screw from behaind the light switch

remove the steering column cowel and probably swear at it! Angry

remove the air-con and re-circ buttons and undo this screw (already removed here)

remove trim from the fag lighter and remove screw (already removed here!)

remove this blancking plate from beneath the light switch (or in my case a kenlowe fan switch!) and remove screw

remove this screw from behind the steering column cowel and another from from the other side

the dash fascia can now be removed so you can see the 3 screws holding the clocks in. (forgot to take pics of those...sorry! Embarrassed
