Q1 - Does any one know if Vauxhall ever produced a tow bar for the Lotus or is it just a standard GSI one?

Q2 - Is there any serious reason why a two bar cannot be fitted to a Lotus?

Before everyone goes 'What', a lotus and a tow bar, there is a serious reason for asking these question !!

Towbar on an Elsie? Shocked

Behave yerself! Grin

Seriously, I'm 99% sure that there was no factory one for the Elsie - the rear bumper goes back a long way, and I think a towbar could well scrape along the road.

Having said that, some bugger somewhere's probably done it or knows of one! Grin

It's not really an option if you want to keep the Lotus rear bumper. The genuine bumper curls right round the bottom to the fuel tank to cut out lift from wind. Your only real option is to fit a GSI bumper and then you would still need to cut it for the two hitch. Another thing to consider is a LC has air adjustable suspension to maintain a constant ride height. The shocks are NLS and if you burst one of the air bags(must be better name) the shock is scrap and as most of ours are getting on I doubt they'd take the punishment. Replacements are available from ABS but they are lots of money.

I'm sure you could buy a replica bumper and cut the hole out for a tow bar.My one still had the bracket in it for the tow bar and there was a cut out on the underside of the bumper.

It's been done by an ABS member - modified GSi towbar with a detachable swan neck end - couldnt tell it had a tow bar on it unless you looked under it

worked fine but it wasn't a big trailer it towed just a couple of jet skis

BC,

That's just the type of fitting that I was hoping off.  Same as fitted to the M3's.

I'd like to pull a 23ft four wheeled boat trailer, which is a very different load to a pair of Jet Skis.

The GSI24v does pull it, but it could do with more grunt, so - in my wisdom or stupidity - I thought why not get a LC to pull it.  Loads of grunt.

Would you mind PM'ing me the individuals details, if you have them?

I don't think the person concerned is on the ABS forum - It was a few years ago when I last saw the car - And I thought it was a nice neat install but then it didn't have to do much work - A couple of jet skis is a heck of a lot different to a four wheel trailer with a speedboat on it!!
