hi there! i registered over a week ago but only just been able to log in!! so i thought i'd say hi.......HI!! Grin

i got told about this site through the VXON. it seems to have a wealth of usefull info! and a very good site.
anyhoo, let me show you my ride!

Normally I'd be driving this; my 1997 seat ibiza gti cuprasport 2.0L 8v (bit of mouthfull eh!!)

it's a usefull bit of kit with 133bhp and 150lb/ft of torque and only weighing 950kg (mostly stripped out inside)

however, due to a nasty injury to my left leg around 9 years ago, I've always struggled with clutches and now I can't seem to manage more than an hour of regular road driving ( I have to pull over and stop in stop-start traffic jams!!)  so the need for an auto came. and luckily enough a freinds father-in-law came to the rescue and gave me this for free!! top bloke!

it's a 2.6 cdx auto and the aircon still works!! as do the electric seats! there are a few electrical faults involving the dash, but reading the huge amount of info on this site i've established that it's fairly common!  it had been sat under a tree for 8 months. gave her a wash, it flew through the MOT and after a couple of petrol leaks near the inlet manifold (sprung after the MOT mind!!) all has been well

I was very surprised how quick it was once i'd figured how! (the auto-box just seems to change up once it reached the ton) it even feels surprisingly planted in the corners. seems to be a great potential street sleeper!  i'll start a thread on the problems in the relevant area. thanks for your time, you've been great!!

wow..this is the warmest welcome ever!! tell you what though, god knows why i never even considered a carlton before. i really like old/fast/powerfull cars, especially ones that are quicker than they have any right to be! i haven't been this surprised by a car since i bought a rover 600 turbo!! does the 2.6 auto estate have an lsd? it felt like it has cos it didn't spin the inside wheel when i was messin about on a wet roundabout! (not that i condone such wreckless activities!! Roll Eyes  "adapted" the airbox this afternoon and fitted a high flow panel filter. the dual ram thing really feels like it kicks in hard now and it comes complete with an induction noise that sounds like a N/A skyline! i like very much!

hello there  , and welcome . the estate looks fantastic . you will find that the auto is a good gearbox and it gets scary in sports mode when you see the rv counter hit the red before it changes but my engine has never blown or shown signs of tearing . but grab a coffee and enjoy the mature site for mature drivers of elegant old ladies .

I wouldn't really consider myself to be mature! i'm downright childish to be honest! here I am driving the most sensible car i've ever owned, 28 years old, and I STILL try and race chavs in corsa's just so I can point and laugh as their pride and joy gets blown away by an old man's barge that was free! ha ha haaaaaaaa!  Grin oh i know i love doing the exact same thing , it amazing watching thier faces when you leave them behind realising they have spent all thier pocket money on tin boxes and a noisy exhaust just to be out gunned by a 16 year old car twice the size in lenght and 3 times the wieght . keep up the good work in flag ship carlton . If at the lights and you get so called chav pull up beside you , drop gear to number 3 , put your spports mode on (s) use brake , when light s go to amber hit the throtle , by the time they turn green you have so called chav realising what just happend .  Cool Grin

i know whipp , i had so much fun with the senny . even scoobies had a decent challenge from me . Mind you i got some respect arouind town with it from the proper  mod car enthusiasts especially when i used to put the bonnet up . the dual ram used to get a wowwww..what is that , and then i would have to explain and let them listen to the roar of the dual ram and all 24valves opening the the doors of hell . Grin

id love another one eventually . think i will waituntill i can afford my louts replica .

many appologies for jacking the thread .  Wink

not really a thread jack...still relevant in my books!! Grin i'll get some better pics up as soon as I take some cos it's had quite a few layers of meguire's finest carnuba wax since them pics were done. and all the plastics are black and shiney again too. oh yeah, instead of "vauxhall carlton 2.6" it says "land barge 1.8" now too!!! for even more confusion!! Shocked

yes mate I am! I didn't fancy working hard for a living so I joined the RAF! been in 9 years now. Grin free batteries ftw!!!  yeah that paint, even though there stone chips all over the bonnet and scratches around the door lock comes up really nice. you can see the metallic-ness (is that a reall word?! Huh) in the sun. just need to sort the arch rust out and find a nice leather interior for it now.
