Air-con fitted by any chance?

All the cars I've had with air-con (regardless of make/model) have had this problem. Our Meega and my Vectra do this aswell.

The only other thing I can think of is the pollen filter needs replacing - if you have one, of course.

It's normal with most modern cars.

They're more air-tight than they used to be & more thick rubbery carpet underlay to hold the damp.

If it's really bad, it could be the heater matrix leaking.

It could be all the damp leaves in the air intakes - I clean mine out weekly this time of year - just done it today.

It's most likely to be a combination of temperature change & damp carpets from getting in the car with wet shoes when it's raining. The carpets never get the chance to dry out properly this time of year.

I minimise the problem by parking the car in the sun (what there is of it) & leaving the sunroof tilted open. The inside of the car heats up, & the evaporated moisture can escape through the sunroof gap. Remember to go out & close it if it looks like heavy rain (& before it gets cold & damp at night)!!

There is another thing that tends to accentuate the problem & that is that the windscreen tends to get a film on the inside of the glass. This film gradually builds up over the year & goes un-noticed until the cold damp weather comes round. You then find that you're continually wiping the windscreen - even with the heater blower on & it takes quite a time until the screen is fully clear.

You almost need something like 'Meths' to clean it off, or concentrated washing up liquid on a soft jay cloth applied all over the inside of the screen. The jay cloth should then be rinsed out   & used to remove the soap etc. - this will have to be repeated several times.

My screen is starting to get this problem again, so I'll soon have to do this again myself.

What is it about Carltons'?

« Reply #18 on: November 20, 2005, 07:13:59 PM »

Now this is the simple explanation for the steaming up.  Grin Grin

Condensation

The change in phase of a substance to a denser phase, such as gas to a liquid. For expanded detail see water vapor.

subsection extract from water vapor/vapour wiki article;-

Water vapor will only condense onto another surface when that surface is cooler than the temperature of the water vapor, or when the water vapor equilibrium in air has been exceeded. When water vapor condenses onto a surface, a net warming occurs on that surface. The water molecule brings a parcel of heat with it. In turn, the temperature of the atmosphere drops slightly. In the atmosphere, condensation produces clouds, fog and precipitation--usually only when facilitated by cloud condensation nuclei. The dew point of an air parcel is the temperature to which it must cool before condensation in the air begins to form.

Also, a net condensation of water vapor occurs on surfaces when the temperature of the surface is at or below the dew point temperature of the atmosphere. Deposition is a type of condensation. Frost and snow are examples of deposition (or sublimation). Deposition is the direct formation of ice from water vapor.
