Decided i was fed up with the wheels being as dirty as they were. There was grease and brake dust by the bucketload on them.

Bought some wonder wheels from Halfords - tip - dont get this stuff in your eyes! It hurts like hell!

It took a few goes but eventually it has cleared the bulk of it. Worked very well, it was just there was that much crud on there it took forever.

So I would probably recommend this stuff for anyone with seriously gunked up wheels.

best thing for really dirty wheels is mr muscle oven cleaner but dont leave it too long!! jet wash it off for best results!

It would definitely not be a good idea to leave oven cleaner on alloys for too long, especially if there are areas where the paint has been knocked off Sad

I suspect that oven cleaner has caustic soda in it which reacts vigorously with Aluminium and Aluminium alloys Shocked

What can look very effective is to use a humbrol model enamel on the rims if they have become scuffed. 2 or 3 coats will fill any scratches and if you get colour 51 (I think) then it matches the diplomat wheels a treat. It also doesn't dry with streaks.

Started cleaning up some alloys I got recently on eBay, took your advice re: Wonder Wheels....amazing stuff, this wheel in the pic had really solid baked on brake dust, this is a test patch, rubbed in well with brush, left about 4/5 mins then hosed off. I'm impressed, thanks for the recommendation.

Don't think it's 51 as that is sunset red.

11 is one of the silvers (i'm assuming theres more than one) does that ring a bell?
