I'm posting these pics up to show solidarity for my mk2 brethren! Bought this January off eBay as a 2.2 donor for my Manta (though the engine is now ready for my Rekord E van) I was gonna scrap the leftovers after the engine transplant. Once home it looked too good to do that so it's now on my restoration list - 5 GM cars and 3 or 4 Renaults!

Those pics are of the car as I bought it. It's now engine-less, sitting in the far corner of a field waiting to be worked on. Before putting it there I tried these on it:

Plans now are to bare metal it and start from scratch, flare the rear arches to fit over those 10x17" Borbet As, respray it metallic Burgundy with black (not brown!) trim and fit a set of airbags - the rear is air-levelled anyway so it would be nice to have it all the way through. Oh and I've bought a 12v Goldtop Senator as a daily driver which will be donating it's engine and box when the time comes  Grin

Nah it's nothing. This one will need luck though

At the end of the day it's just metal, some of it may need to look pretty but it's all do-able in time. The biggest welding job on the Carlton is rear arches as they have to be spot on. All the rest is hidden so doesn't have to look perfect. The other headache will be the suspension but it'll be worth it to have a 200hp, old skool, air-suspended cruiser that no-one recognises. Roll on Billing 2020.

In case anyone's wondering that pile of leaves is a Renault 4 4x4 that's been upside down, underground, in a forest for the last 15 years. That's another one of my little projects

Is it still upside down under ground with the body attached?

lol the turrets are shot! They're still attached and I can close the bonnet but they will need major surgery.

Yeah that 4 is complete, upside-down. The way the chassis has rotted I wouldn't be surprised if the shell has totally disappeared but I've got a NOS chassis lined up and a spare shell to plonk on top.

As for them Borbets, have a look at my van:
