Thinking of buying this to upgrade my latest baby:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4584916189&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

It mentions mods needed to get the Door Cards to fit, what does this entail, anyone know the score?

It's only 35 miles from me so is very viable  Cheesy

I fitted an interior from a 93 CDX Senator to my 1989 Carlton.
I wanted the centre console, so had to fit the dash - wiring aside, easy peasy.
Had to fit the Senny doorcards too, as the air vents are mounted to the doors on a Senny, but straight swap.
You'll probably find the wiring for the heated seats in your car under the carpet, just wrapped up near the tunnel - find the switches, and fuse, and it's plug and play.

Everything utilises Carlton fixing holes, apart from console mounting holes into the tunnel, but a couple of homemede brackets sorted it.
You'll need to use the Senator heater matrix, as the Carlton one won't fit (mine didn't, anyway!), and you may need to bugger about with the heater pipes, but don't be afraid to use flexible rubber hoses to get round the clutch pedal if you have the cast ally pedal box.

Go for it - it'll only take a weekend to do! Smiley

Any more queries, just holler! Wink

I don't think I want to go as far as changing the Dash, my car already has a Light grey Interior which is why I am so chuffed at finding this as it will match quite nicely anyway.

I would like to get the Heated Seats working, any tips on finding the wiring at the dash end to connect a switch?

Am I right in thinking that the wiring is there for pretty much everything on all Carltons, it just depends on the spec as to whether it is connected or not?

Thanks for the help Guys  Smiley

The front Senator door cards won't mate to the Carlton dash, as the Carlton has the air vents on the dash, whereas the Senny has them on the doors. Although all the doorcards will fit, the fronts will look odd! Undecided

http://totalcarlton.com/forums/index.php?topic=8.msg16#msg16 - the wood is now blue, and i've had to fit the gay digidash (long story!!), but you get the jist!!

Pete - you just have to put this Senator to Carlton interior transplant in the dare I say long awaited "How To...." section.

What did happen to that idea - it seems to have died a death.

The wiring should be in place but is not always. I have a '93 Plaza and there is no wires behind the dash for front fogs or heated seats but yours being a GL should help.
If the wiring is in place it'll be behind one of the blanking plates below the clock.
Just prise them off and have a look to see if you can see a wiring block with the terminals in it - it's real easy to see one way or t'other.

It really isn't hard to do - just time consuming - honest guv! Wink

All the main things fit - fusebox, clocks, switches, heater matrix etc., it really is a case of removing the Carlton dash and refitting the Senator one.

The dash itself screws straight tinto the Carlton brackets, then the rest is easy! If you use a Senator dash with the cable heater adjusters, it's easier than mine - I had to have the climate control jobbie, and as such that was hard to get it work, especially without the air con or air recirculation. I did it in the end and it worked a treat, but then when I removed the dash to fit the GSi loom, I must have reconnected it a bit wrong, so I have it all to do again............ Roll Eyes

You need the steering column shroud from the Senny too, as it's slightly different to the Carlton one, but buggered if I can remember why!

Like I said, more time consuming than difficult!! Grin

I have to say Pete, that is a conversion I would love to do. However, time - space and a wife that wouldn't understand why I should contemplate such a thing in the first place just don't help.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Easy way round that one - find a "problem" (obviously one that doesn't really exist Wink) and explain that you can't find a decent Carlton dash in the right colour etc., but happened upon a good Senator example, as as the dash has to come out.............

I think you know where I'm coming from!! Grin Grin Grin

Excellent advice Pete - thanks.

BTW are you going to detail this conversion in the newly born "How To....." pages - reckon it would be very useful (especially to me  Cheesy)

Detail?

That's about it!

A full and frank "How To" is now in the interior section of the "How To" section.

anyone mate, it's only taking up space....

as I said, it's only a bare dash as I sold most of the bits off it.

It needs:
glovebox
centre console bits, ie heater controls etc
the leather horseshoe thing has gone too

all switches have been removed.

I think I still have the plastic dash surround.

Apologies Matt - I read your post completely out of context.

I would indeed like to do the Senator dash conversion - but not placed to start acquiring parts to do so for some time yet.
Sorry for the confusion.

I'm only going to fit the seats so the rest is up for grabs. I would like to find some CDX or Dippy Door Cards in Light Grey with the Wood Trim and a Nice Carpet as the Carpet in mine is a bit tatty.

Hopefully I will get this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8010516547&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&rd=1

And then I can get a warmly leathered bottom LOL  Cheesy

Well I've spent all week Cleaning & Feeding the Leather Seats I got with "Carr & Day & Martin" Leather Balsam Intensive Conditioner.
My mate is a Professional Saddler, so I blagged some for the car as I used to use it on our Leather Suite when I was married so I thought I'd give it the full treatment before I fit them.
I've just kept doing them til they won't soak any more in and WOW, what an awesome job it makes. I recommend anyone with Leather Seats to do the same.
It blends all the more worn area's colour back to the rest and makes it so soft and supple and smells gorgeous to boot. The Leather will never crack or split if treated with this stuff.
I've got women fighting over who's gonna christen it with me once I've Installed them LOL!!!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
