. Do you know about peak oil theory supposedly being a scam?  I haven't looked into it deeply myself but apparently there is no shortage of  reserves and new ones keep poping up all the time.

now that is very interesting

thing is even if its not a scam nothings going to happen in our lifetime, so i say lets fill up our cars and do some sideways action haha

Opec recently denied requests to increase output, why wouldn't they as they will be raking it in.

Remember that the chancellor is also raking it in !  there is VAT on top of the basic price of both the fuel and the fuel tax, so that you pay VAT on the tax !!

Every extra penny on the price of fuel means extra VAT to the chancellor.

It is also worth remembering that even at 100$ per barrel ( a barrel is 40 gallons ) so that means that it is 2.5$ / gallon = approximately £1.25

You can refine about 23 gallons of petrol out of that, the rest is sold for jet fuel, plastics etc.

Assuming that the refining costs are about £0.30/gallon, that would mean £1.55/gallon and assume that the petrol station only gets £0.20/gallon for selling it ( a lot of them are going out of business because the profit is so low ! )

That makes a grand total of £1.75/gallon; we are paying over £4.50/gallon for it !

Guess where the other £2.75 is going ?

If I were a member of OPEC I wouldn't be too sympathetic about people bellowing about the price of petrol either, it's our elected government that is screwing us !

Yes, the ammount of tax on fule is ludicrous. I didn't realise how much it has increased in the last 10 years.

The good news is that if people can get organised then we are basicly unstoppable as there are so many people on the receiving end of these unjustifiable taxes.

What's the forum in question? One dedicated to opposing the level of fuel duty?

I hope you realise that you will be striking at the backbone of successive governments taxation policy ?

I don't agree with it ! I think it is crippling the country, it is a snake continually eating its own tail !

The fact of it is that £45 BILLION is the governments take from road users and £7.5 BILLION is spent on roads.

Rather than increase that spend by increasing motorway capacity and thus decrease the money in their back pocket, the government is now saying that what you usually find yourself in court for, will now become legal ie. use the hard shoulder and forget the safety aspects (which was the main justification for prosecution)

The government is very keen to use 'green' issues to increase taxation but anyone with an mpg display knows that the moment you start crawling in motorway congestion, the average comes crashing down !

The Eddington Transport Study says "It is an inescapable conclusion that road user taxation has become the backbone of the governments taxation policy"

Melinx: No I didn't realise that taxes from motorists made up such a large proportion of tax revenue. Pretty amazing. Still the size of government has been going up for many years and has been rising even more rapidly in recent years. I don't think we get much in return for this.

Ian: I think you can get free forums but I don't know if this includes the webspace. I'll look into it if I get time.

No justification. Not even on enviromental grounds IMO (man made GW scam and peak oil) especially seeing as we could all be driving electric cars around for our utility purposes while still using your vehicle of choice for leisure puropses.

Anyone seen the film 'Who killed the electric car'

Remember this ? all of us moaning our ducks off about the levels of taxation on fuel.

What happened ? the tax levels have increased and it's no longer £1 per litre, it's £1.35

The BBC Panorama program on 17/10/11 showed that people are having to cut the amount of food they buy for their families, companies are being forced into bankruptcy or liquidation and large scale fuel theft by organised crime syndicates (many of them former terrorist organisations) is soaring.

Some don't 'muck about' when it comes to fuel theft; there was actual footage of a tanker turning up in the night and totally emptying the new delivery from a filling station tank Shocked

I missed this thread first time around. Doesn't seem that long ago does it. THen again, I remember the fuel blockades when petrol hit 80p a litre. What I'd give for that now! I was laughing at the time cos people were driving around at 56mph and queueing for half a day to get a dribble of unleaded yet I was OK (jack) cos I was driving an "old" Manta that ran on 4* so could just roll up, fill up and drive off!  Grin Grin Grin

Didn't stop me getting confined to camp for the weekends though incase I couldn't get fuel to get back.  Undecided
