Well, just bought a pair off eBay, £14 all in! including postage! Not bad, eh?
Although I kind of had to, on thursday last week, I doscovered the hard way that BMW drivers are, in fact, ignorant tw*ts! Stupid buggur pulled out 20 yards in front of me, then stopped. 2 ton of carlton versus the front wing of a '96 3 series.... I drove home, they got a slighlty bent car. Was only doing 25 ish. I would post a pic of the beaten up front of the car, but can't work out how.

All I need now is a bonnet, grille, bumper, indicator, headlamp wiper assembly, battery (the headlamp got pushed in with such force it punctured the battery!!), possibly a wing (all passenger side), and all in time for the MoT on the 25th......

Anybody got a spare car??

£14 a pair.... bargain!

My last one I got from an Auto-Dismantlers for £20..... this was after my dad removed one for me in another scrappy, took it to the man at the gate "£50 quid" he said...... "Chances" says me dad and handed him the lamp and left. Jokers!

ta for that.
Well, there she is. Had to take her off the road yesterday, steering creaking and wandering, brakes trying to kill me, generally not happy. And the lamps arrived this morning! Sod's law eh? Good job i've still got that daewoo (yay...)
Doesn't look so bad in that pic really, may have to grab a daytime one instead.

OUCH! Sad Sad

At least it's repairable, but failing that, Cartons are now cheap enough to buy.............

there's a lot you can't see in the photo. wing and bonnet are bent, the bit the headlight mounts into on the frame itself is all bent in (the headlamp assembly actually punctured the battery!!) something in the steering creaks (I think its the tie-rod against the inner wing or something like that), and it pulls rather hard to the left, and on thrusday night, the ABS decided to make the brakes stop working, leaving me sailing across a junction and parking in the kerb! Methinks this one is parked permanently i'm afraid.

Still gotta wait fir the other person's insurance company (or the other person for that matter) to get back to me tho....

Thae abs cant stop the brakes working if the abs is faulty your'e brakes will behave as thow abs aint fitted.

The crabbing is chance to be the bottom arm bent.

Check the a posts for kinks or dents and look at the door gaps on both sides.

I seriously think it shold repair for not alot of cash.

If the brakes failed completely check for leeking fluid around the impact area.

TBH, I know it's plain lazy, but i got another perfectly working car, i'm basically waiting for the other person's insurance company to declare it a write-off, then I don't know what'll happen to it. I don't really want to start repairing it to have it taken away as a write-off. All this just in time for the MoT to expire in two weeks!! Half tempted to stick a tow-bar on the daewoo (that'll be funny) and turn the carlton into a track-car!

And so it ends. The carlton was towed from my drive today, en route to the great scrappy in the sky methinks. In garage for now until verdict is passed. If anyone wants the pair of headlamps i bought to start the repair, check out eBay item no 4591324989.

Wait for the licence points to clear, and then a GSi mebbe...

Out of interest, how the hell is that black bumper support bar held on?? I couldn't find anything holding it to the car other than some mythical force or other. No amount of hammering it or swearnig at it would remove it!!
How it looked just before it left;

And the remains of the old headlamp (with tools used for removal!!);

So that's two screwdrivers, a pair of side cutters and a twatting spanner - good work! Grin

Hope you do get a GSi soon - they come with a built-in massive grin factor!

Not that you need to know this now but there are two bolts underneath the car that secure the bumber blade (one each side) accessable from the wheel arch.

Yes indeedy!
On later models, the same bolt holds up the carbon canister on the passenger side.  Makes it a little fiddly but not hard.
