There isn't a lot too it.  Firstly you need the motor mechanism, switch panel & cable.  If you haven't already got those then i have a working set on my 12v GSi.

The hardest part will be to thread the power cable through the nearside windscreen pillar.  This connects the the connector block underneath the passenger side kick panel.  The rest of it should be failry straightforward, if you have both cars side by side then even easier still!

Feel free to pop over this weekend & rob the bits you need off the GSi, it probably wont be around for much longer as i'm flat broke & need the cash, scrap price is good at the moment & there's not too much i need to remove from this car!  Will probably take it to work & strip it there as it's pushing distance to the scrapyard!

That's a good point, i forgot you could do that!  It's probably even got the same cable down the windscreen pillar as the ones with the electric sunroofs!!

Let me know if you need a hand John?

It can be done easily that way but the motor tends to run slowly.
As long as you dont mind - fine!

Strangely, this is a job I haven't done Cheesy

I would think that the interior light feed would not be capable of carrying the required current to power the roof motor - hence the unit running slow & there could be a risk of the cable burning out.......although from what's been said, it seems that it just manages to cope - but I bet it gets warm Shocked

I have repaired the sun roof switches when the little paxoline bits get worn - add two folds of thin copper sheet to the worn edges Tongue

I had a bodge-fit sunroof in my GL for two years and the same unit transfered to the Plaza for a further year - no problems at all (other than the aforementioned slowness).

Could have been but I 've seen a few others done this way going slow - nature of the beast I think.

The motor came outta that CDX we bought for twenty quid. Grin

Sun roof motor needs a decent thick supply wire.for all tha amps it pulls.
It will go slow if not, volt drop.
It's not hard to run a new live to it anyway,
I'd stick a new feed in for it along with a decent earth path,
the interior light is only less than 20w
and if you fry the wiring then it b****rs your current sense freatue on the alarm as
that triggers off volt drop from interior light coming on when door opens.

Mine (originally 2litre GLi) had no wiring for the sunroof, but it's only a half hour job to install it into the plug in the footwell - you only have to remove a sunvisor, pillar trim and footwell trim, fiddle the wire from the sunroof to the plug by way of the a pillar, making use of the holes in the framework.

Refit trims, visor and maybe fit a fuse, and it's job done! Wink
