The cable was replaced the day i got the car. This broke a day or 2 after thinking it was due to the clock being a bit dry which it was so I replaced it.

The spedo isn't working again, I've checked both ends for connection and they are ok so it must be broken again.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Shot in the dark here...
Cable not twisted around something or routed badly???
Short of a damaged mechanism in the clock itself or a badly routed cable I can't think why it would keep breaking as it is being driven from the bottom end so even if that jammed the cable simply wouldn't move, it certainly wouldn't break...  Undecided

Yes the routing is the only thing i can thing of. The spedo was a bit stiff when I got it which made the needle quiver up to 40 mph but I cured this with some silicone spray which is not supposed to dry up.  The spedo works fine now.

When I replaced the cable for thefirt time i copied the routing and it did seem a bit intricate. I will try a more simple routing next time and cross my fingers unless enyne else has any suggestions?

I had a 80-82 carlton/cavalier cable which I have fitted for now as it's bank holiday and won't be able to get a proper on till wednesday. The onld difference is the spedo end is slightly larger so i put a bit of masking tape around the clock end and nipped the cup on with some dogs.

With the better routing this one probably won't break so I might just leave it in.
