How difficult is it to remove the rear window and then put it back in, or would I need to take it into the garage?

Is it rear window, or rear screen?

I thought the rear windscreen is bonded and best left to the experts

Yes I did mean rear screen but I need to change a door window too.

I think I'll work around it, just a few spots of rust around one side of the window.

I think you can remove the rubber to sort the rust, then replace it.

Any idea how I can get the doorcard off without breaking the orange bit in the lock knob? Or do you think it's possible to work around it?

i use a knife point in the top centre of the insert and lever slowly upwards be warned though you will mark the plastic and you need to go deep with the point but if you are carefull its not too bad a job.
The hidden screws are hidden behind the rubber at the top of the apeture next to the quarter light pull the rubber all the way out as this helps to get the window out too

If you're taking the doorcard right off, the orange insert needs to come out. Nine times out of ten they break, but they are available from most Vauxhall spares departments. Cheap too, best buy a good few, coz if you're keeping the Carlton for any amount of time, you're bound to need them again.

Cheers guys. I'll pick up some orange bits and waxoil and put that in the doors at the same time.

I have never been able to get the surround for the lock knob to stay down properly since i changed the door.

Sounds like there's a screw missing there then.

Yeah, I put a screw in but i think the head is the wrong shape so it just slips off.  I'll look at the other ones when i take the door cards off.

Got the orange bits though 54p each!

On the subject of rear screens they can be cut out but much care must be taken. should be easier if you do it from the inside running the blade along the glass.

I'm with Ferret - mine was removed for when it was painted, and that's how we did it.  Wink

I was ready to pay for a new screen though - luckily, that was £200 saved!! Grin

actually uninstalling the rear window is not difficult job. you just need to sure that you perform the task carefully to avoid damage of the window. i think rear window louvers is much difficult to replace.
