Carlton GSI 3000 24v

« on: September 06, 2005, 11:58:02 AM »

Ok, so today I pulled out the dash to check all the connections are fitted properly and theyre ok, so I put it all back, and now the backlight has gone. Everything seems ok in the fusebox, so I'm thinking a bulb has blown (reminder to disconnect battery before playing with electrics  Roll Eyes).

Does anyone know if replacement bulbs are available and what the code is?

How easy is it to change from the digi dash to a normal one and where can I source a dash to fit from?

Thanks

Part number is 93154848, about four squid a piece from Vauxhall.

As far as changing the dash to a proper, analogue, homophobic, man's type of dash - I think it's not so much of a long job, but more of a career! Roll Eyes

If someone knows different, please let me know, cos I really don't like the totally gay digital thing in mine!

I have a k-plate GSI with ordinary clocks, and i would like to change to the dreaded digi dash. Don't ask why, but i just think they are really smart to look at. I attempted to convert mine over to the digi version, but after some investigation work, I unforunately found out that none of the wiring is there, unless i chop off the current connectors, and bodge a conversion? Even then I think i will still be missing some wiring. As for your problems, i would of thought it would be easier to convert back to standard clocks using similar methods?  Huh

I would also like to ask if anyone could help shed some light on suggestions for me converting to digi!!

Cheers!!

Pete, take a look at Odd's page for converting Digi to Analogue (Odd's from the ABS, and is from Norway.)

http://home.no.net/opel24v/ABS/digidash_to_analog_24v.doc

It's a fair bit of work, but Lee - I've heard it would be far more difficult to do it the other way, from Analogue to Digi.

Always worked on my orignal car!

It's not as bad as it looks on the article Matt posted. First thing I did was to bin the digis on mine(didn't work right anyway, what a suprise!!) as long as you cut the plug wiring out of the donor & it's of similar year all the colours on the wiring will be the same...I had a few extra wires left from the digi ones but they are not needed for the analogues...once connected you can always check your sensor wires by shorting them to earth make sure they correspond to the relevant guages & lights...Takes a bit of time but it's not rocket science honestly...did mine in a couple of hours...Just make sure the clocks come from a model with a electronic speedo!! gsi would be best bet. Smiley

Pedro if you fancy avin a go I can have a gander at my wiring again & let you know the colours & what they correspond to in a simplified version than that other one...My clocks have to come out again anyway cause they're getting sent off to have 60 leds fitted in em so they light up blue with red needles.A couple of pics from the guy who's doing my dash..Who needs digi's when it can look like this!!!![/img]

well I must admit that converting to analogue clocks does sound kinda easy, but i read Odd's postings on ABS, and it put me right off!!! If it's no problem, LR, that would be sound mate! Oh, this lED business sounds good too - any contact info would be great too - cheers!

NOW THAT'S BETTER!

None of this poofish digital nonsense like a hairdresser's Astra GTE Convertable............ooh, Maureeeeeeece! Kiss

It's a guy I found on ebay from Southampton who does these at home..Sound guy..The top pick is his omega & the others a vectra I think..He's just done my window switches front & back,& the dash switches with red leds for the fogs, headlight switch & adjuster switch. Having problems with the computer & heater panel as the illumination relies on the light shining out of the side of the bulb & leds shine out the end but we'll get round it some how..I want the full dash blue but he can do red, green amber what ever tickles your fancy mate. Will post some pics when me digi cam gets sorted(knackered, only 2 months old)......But it looks 1000 times better than it did & 1000,000 times better than the digis what it came with(I'm with you on that one,,"so last seasons"(in a camp styleee))
I've got to ring the guy about sending my clocks down to be done(3 days work, total stripdown & rebuild) & I'll see if it's ok to give you his number or email address & you can av a chat if you fancy doin something different inside.......

I'm gonna take my clocks back out at weekend cause I,ve got loads of wiring to do,windows to sort, amp wiring, neons to wire under dash & back seats, remote start alarm to fit so I'll write down what wiring to what plugs on the clocks & post them on this thread & I'll get you contact details for the led man Smiley Smiley Smiley

Oh by the way nice motor pedro
Cheers Russ

Been in touch with the led meister & he said it's ok to post his email address about any dash conversions...He can do virtually any colour you fancy, clocks with multi coloured mph & rev numbers, any clock-needle combination of colours & even needles that change colour...door card illumination kits...whatever you fancy..& believe me this guy knows his stuff when it comes to leds....[/img]  [/img]  [/img]  [/img]

His name is Brett & he'll be happy to help with any conversions..email address is :  mossi76@hotmail.co.uk
If you email him include that you were put onto him by Russ through the TotalCarlton website as he recieves alot of emails from different sites...
Go on Pedro, you know you want to.........

« Reply #12 on: September 19, 2005, 10:21:43 AM »

Just an update on my progress, today I did a brief scientific experiment   Roll Eyes where I hit the dashboard with my fist, which resulted with it going blank for a second, and then going through the start up checks, pretty much like it does on its own accord occasionally. Therefore I conclude that it is the digi dash that is at fault rather than anything else. Any opinions or is this a natural occurance???

I've checked the connections at the back and they seem fine, so I'm thinking it could be something loose inside

I had a 24v senator with digis with a mind of they're own Kilo 3000, they used to go blank now & then epsecially when you stuck it in sports(auto) & nailed it. Thought loose connection & found none...It had a red light in the clocks with an "F" in a red box which would come on every time the clocks went waffy...I pretty sure this meant there was a fault in the clocks...I sold the car as was & so never got to sort it but I think it's pretty common & I'd try another set of clocks or go for the analogue,,more reliable ........... Mine have a habit of disappearing for a second or two, then reappearing - although they don't go throught the start up routine.
I'm sure the problem is a loose connection, as it seems to happen when the car hits a bump.

I've had 2 cars with the digi dashes now, and not had a problem with either.... suppose I've been lucky!

The one in my GSI is fine, never had any problems...

And the one from the senny was also fine, which is soon to be sold to Mr Kilo..... Cheesy
