On a standard square arched carlton?

Im guessing if you use a different offset you can probably go a touch wider?

If no one knows the answer Ill get a tape measure and guess LOL  Cheesy

This is all a bit academic really, as I cant afford new rims, but I sleep better at night when I know unimportant stuff like this... so humour me!  Wink

Not sure about wheel width, I think it's more to do with tyre width.

Mine rides a 17"x7" rim with 235/45/17 tyres, and I have no problems.

I tried to go for 255/40/17 once but carltons are funny on the back end - it would fit on one side but not the other.... it's almost like the diff is not quite central (apparently it's quite common with most cars.)

I've got some BBS split rims kicking about somewhere off me old gsi that are 17 x 7 or 7.5 with 235's on front & 245's on the rear..Dunno what offset they are though..was tight with lowered springs but had no probs with the arches......

Is it actually a problem or more of a niggle? Will it cause me problems or not?

Is it just a case of loosening the whole suspension and moving it?

Well, I had the 6.5 inch wide Cally Turbo rims on there  a while back (FWD offset) and there was a good 1.5 Inch of gap between arch and metal, so I have a mental limit of 8 inchs in my mind. Tyre width wont apply to me, as Im a big fan of Euro / Jap Stretched tyre-ness

hang on, just had a thought, you got 255 tyres on your carlton (sort of). The 255 number is allegedly the width of the tyre is mm. Soooooo

255 / 25.4 = 10 inch rims  Lips Sealed

Mind you had a measure today, and theres an 11 inch gap at its thinnest point between inner and outer arch. Not that simple I know as the wheel doesnt move directly up and down, more of an arc.

Hmmm Fairly chunky rims should be possible anyways, just need to calculate the offset.

You've got no chance of slipping some 10"ers in standard rear arches. I'm running 8" azev's with 245s on front which are about level where the standard arches were. & 10" with 275s on rear & the rim sits on the outside of the quarter panel. I reckon your right with the 8" max under standard arches Colonelk.... Tyre sizes equates to 17(rim size obviously)-255(is 255mm)-45 or whatever it may be(the tyre side wall height as a percentage of the width size) so a 50 profile tyre on a 205 will have a side wall of 102.5mm approx(50%)

Although theres no reason why you cant fit 255's on 8" rims but the side wall will probably angle in a bit to the rim..........

Same as Pedro!! but i have at present 285 /35 18s on the rear, you can fit 330/30/18 just but hard cornering makes them just touch a little on the inner arch and it steers like a pig!!!!
