Hi folkes

My 87 GSI is suffering from bad tin worm. I have a welder bit not done any in your face welding before. Is it an easy job or best to let a pro do the outer work and i finish the hidden work. On a tight budget e.g. skint, so any adive would help. Dont want the only thing in my life that i have owned for so long, apart from my wife go to the bin.

So, through experience, Hadrian panels are best?

Will have to look for a body shop to do the work here by the sounds (fit in when quiet/as when). Had a good look at the car today. Rear quarter is a looooooooong piece of metal. Too much heat will make it wavey if done by my non gas MIG welder. May be should wait for the new car (see other posting) and see how the arches are on it, and use this one for spares?

Can take photos if any one want to see extent of rust (please advise how to post) for input / thoughts on if it worth the money.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks for the input. Only thing is, I live 16 miles North of Aberdeen for all my sin's. £400 note for the quality of work I have seen on your other posting. You are one lucky guy. That is good repair work in the picture. Seam welded, and with out heat penetration spreading into the outer panels. Fantastic work.

I had to pay, £80 plus vat for to get an outer sill fitted to my Carton, only to be told that the inner was badly rotten after the work had been done! Gutted.

No wonder the body shop owner drives a Lexus with private plate. Bet I paid for the first letter on the plate alone with the bill for 2 sills and both sides/bumper/bonnet painting.

I've bought all the hadrian repair panels, sills and arches, for my car.

I'm probably going to weld the sills on mine, but leaving the arches to our bodyshop man!

Worth it for a spot on job of course.

Nice piccy's there Mossy and welcome to the forum too mate! Smiley Smiley Smiley

Thanks for the reply mossy and welcome to the forum (of impending divorce-for me anyway)

Pedro & UD along with the other members are good bunch. You ask the tell!!!

One question is, the arches that were fitted, were they made by Hadrian Panels, as the rust of mine (live in Scotland so Salt more on the roads than the bloody chipshop where you need it).

My car has rusted above the top of the filler line that would be above the Plastic strip fitted on the arch normaly.

Looks like final paint job was done by aerosol. Who did you use for the mix / supply, and how hard was it to get a good finish?

Regards

Carltonman.

Hi

The paint was mixed by Oxford paints not a bad match as its Colbolt blue mica metalic. Most paint suppliers can mix it up in tins nowadays. Only used aerosols due to cost and time. These still cost 13quid each for the base coat!!!!!! 2 used.

As stated in the other posts the panels are on the larger side so you can cut to fit If I remember correctly the top edge roughly came up to  half the distance to the fuel flap.
