I have the standard radio cassette with 10 disc changer in the boot. For ages i have had a great FM reception but a chronic MW/LW. There is no windscreen aerial and no body mounted one either, so I am at a loss as to how I have the FM reception at all. Can anybody help please.

You listen to MW/LW  Shocked

JOKE!  Tongue

As Ian says, make sure its plugged in at the back. If there are no obvious places where there could have been an external ariel in the past, then it may of had a windscreen ariel and the screens been replaced with a non-ariel one in the past.

Maybe retro fitting an ariel on its side inside the front or rear bumper housing could work? (seen this done on another car when the owner wanted the ariel removed but wanted to listen the radio... worked quite well) Either that or look for a Rear heated screen ariel from an Omega as you could retro fit this to your carlton. It uses the heater wires in the rear screen as an ariel, but keeps the heater functionality Smiley

Hi,

This may help.

My CDi has an aerial + amplifier booster fitted under the panel immediately behind the rear seats (saloon only). I believe it uses the heated rear screen element as the pick up antenna.
So you may have a problem with the amplifier unit or screen element connection.

However best way to check your radio is to fit it in a mates car that has no problem. If then it works it must be the aerial system in your car. If it doesn't work then it's most likely your radio. Is it the Grundig 4870RDS?

Hope this has shed a little motre light on it for you. Sorry it's late in picking up the thread but have only recently signed up.

Good luck

Thanks to one and all, especially to you Budgie, even though I did track the problem down before reading your message by scrutinising the Haynes manual 'leccy diagrams.

It was indeed the amplifier under the parcel shelf.

I have temporarily disconnected the HRW and now enjoy perfect AM/FM reception so that I can listen to as much sport as I like.

Best wishes one and all
