Carlton 2.6CDXi Saloon (K-Reg) - FOR SALE

« on: January 06, 2007, 10:21:02 PM »

Hi all,

This is the second time I have come across this site and now I have decided to set up camp, I have been having a few problems with the silver bullet and will probably be asking some pretty stupid questions over the next couple of weeks.

I have a silver (ish) Carlton 2.6CDXi saloon it is K reg and I have had it for about 2 years, it was my dads and before that a company car, hence the 160,000 miles on the clock! My other car is a 1970 Triumph Herald 13/60 (Wrong forum, I know)

I have had real problems in the past getting the right parts for this car as it seems to be fitted with some 3 litre stuff (i.e. Brakes and Water pump) so I know now to take the part off and take it with me when I collect the new bit!

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

We thrive on silly questions here, in fact you will most likely find that a few of yours have been asked before and were'nt so silly after all!

Your 2.6 shares ALOT of parts with the 3.0 12valve cars, and many of our members own the 3.0 and/or the 2.6 so answers will be forthcoming.

What problems do you have - may as well get started eh? Wink

Ooh , I've ben t'pub, but I do know that the watr pump is the same on the 2.6 as the 3.0 litre 12v and 24V - I'm a genius, innit!

Only the late 3.0 12V's that run serpentine belts

It's not the same as the earlier 2.5 & 3.0 12V's as they ran std V belts

Carlton 2.6CDXi Saloon (K-Reg) - FOR SALE

« Reply #10 on: January 08, 2007, 07:39:57 PM »

Ian

I found this forum whilst searching for solutions to my car problem (see sparky bits). I think I also found a link to this site through another website on Lotus Carltons as I have always been a fan. It was Autobahnstormers website!

My Carlton is surprisingly lacking in rust, the Herald on the other hand is mostly rust. I have not had it on the road for 18 months, I drove it as my only car, everyday, for 8 years! I lived in Wolverhampton most of that time and travelled to Dudley everyday, fond memories. Cry

What's the problem with the water pump. Basically the story was that I ordered a 2.6 item and it was totally different to the one on my car, when I exchanged it they told me it was from a 3.0 of some description, and also a little more expensive which is really what concerned me! The same with the brakes!!

Guessing they sold you a pump from the early 12V as BC says above.
3.0 24V brakes are bigger than the 12V and 2.6 I believe. (Correct me BC)
Theres a guy on here (Paul) from Manchester breaking a GSi, might be a few bits you need on it before it hits the scrappy.

Thanks again Whippit,

We'll start with a new ariel eh? My offside indicator lens also flew off a couple of weeks back (couldn't take the pace).

I still haven't got to the bottom of my running problem and it is too wet and dark up here in Manchester to go out and have a look without gettng p**sed wet through. It will have to wait for the weekend.
