It's got the 4 grub screws, that I removed.
Still can't get it out (using 4 pieces of coat hanger wire), will get the appropiate tools if someone can confirm the radio unit is not bolted to the cage.

And there are 6 speakers in my car? 2 on the shelf, 2 in the front doors and 2 on the sides of the dash?
Can someone explain how to wire 6 speakers on 4 speaker exits? crossover unit somewhere in between?
And how to get to the 2 speakers on the dash? does the plastic covers going upwards along the windshield needs to be removed in  order to get the grilles out?

Took ages to get my origional stereo out, no its not bolted in just very tight, what you got to be careful of is that non of the spring pins on the side of the stereo gets trapped behind the side of the case, this happens quite often, if you can try and get some propper stereo prongs, I used drill bits once, from what I remember the tweeters on top near the windscreen just pull up, and the tweeter is attached to the grill, not to the console, not sure about the wiring, or xover, may just be a capacitor

Cheers

if you are fitting an amp can you let me know how you ran the power cable from the battery to the boot, as I need to do this soon, very soon, I've had a look and the car is well built.?? Smiley Smiley

Still no luck... radio won't move.

I feel there's a square piece (rod)  of metal coming out of the back, and a square plastic thing at the end of that,
been trying for over two hours !  Angry

It can take a long time, I totaly demolished mine getting it out,, the stereo fits into a cage what you feel is the cage not the stereo, the only thing that holds the stereo in is the four clips, two on either side, my guess is that one of these has got stuck on the outside of the cage, on the back of the cage there is a locating prong, and a wiring block, these should not stop the stereo from coming out, I've only taken these out on two cars the first one was fine, and on mine, I took a set of mould grips to it, still took ages, try taking out the glove box and feel down the side, as the clips will be at the front of the stereo.

Good luck mate  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Hiya!

Think this is what you are after - I bought a couple for my Grundig RDS4870 in my Carlton - they work like a charm and don't damage anything.

more than likeley you will havebent the side clips out when you used the coathanger... very common, try pushing them in at an angle so the end you push inheads to the outside of the stereo. pull the ends of them you have left towards the outside of the  stereo...and it should release... if not you can with extreme care pull the plastic front off the radio so it will go back on...hard but  possible, all becomesclear then!!  pushing things straight into the holes just locks it in tighter...  need toget the angle!!
      Hope this works

Pull the odments tray out from under you sterio and get your hand under the radio, with the other hand get a bit flat screwdriver and force it in between the cassette player and the cage.close youe eyes and just rip the feker out.

push from the back as well as lever from the front.
