Five inches on clamps??
cant you cut the coils??
Or get a spare set of coils and send them off to be re wound??
Bit dangerous clamping coils especialy five inches.

Hi Rearsteer Nice example of a rare beast ! I often break terminally rusty 2.2 Carltons, If you pm your phone number i will contact you next time one comes in & you are welcome to borrow or buy the springs to get some made up. If anyone has any suitably rusty 2.2 Mk2s let me know, I will buy cheap complete cars or just the front brakes but they must be a 2.2i NOT 1.8 or 2.0 models Graham www.onlyopels.co.uk

That is a shame. These are now extremely rare as the 2.2 CD variant. I know Ian Derrick has one but he's gone very quiet for the last 2 years. Greenvauxhall parts had some exhausts for the 2.2 and sold one last year to someone in Scotland and there is mine. Do we know of any others?

First of all, Welcome back to TC Rearsteer! Just one thing though... A good friend of mine has just bought a g reg lotus carlton Hmmm, I really don't want to call you or your mate a liar here but unless his 1989/1990 Carlton's got a private plate on it....Its not a real Lotus Carlton especially if its on a G-Reg numberplate. History says that one of the Pre-Production Prototypes did survive but that numberless car has not been seen publically for many years now and I doubt your mates bought the original Lotus prototype G929 SPP as you would of said that he had bought a Lotus Omega instead. You see, all production Lotus Carlton's started a year later on a H-reg prefix Rearsteer! Here are some pictures of Lotus Carlton H81 RAH - 0005G which was the second Lotus Carlton that was ever registered here in the UK.... [/quote] with number 0004G - H79 RAH being the first and number 0006G - H82 RAH being the last of this first batch of three Lotus Carlton's that all made up the UK's press fleets examples. As such, all of these vehicles are well documented press whores thanks to all of the publicity generated surrounding these supercars at the cars launch. HTH!
