Hi all,
I've been looking at TC for a few weeks & finally got round to registering!
I've had a Carlton Estate 2.0 since new (1988) and I've now got round to buying a rather neglected 3000Gsi. which I'm
restoring to top condition. I think the site is excellent, already picked up quite a few tips. I used to be an auto electrician a
'few' years ago and I've just found my original GM issued wiring schematics - very interesting. I'll try and post some pictures
of progress if anyones interested. (P.S. I'm a bit new to this computer lark so that might take a bit of time). Anyway great
site, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the welcome guys,
I'll do whatever I can for you on the electics front, wiring has certainly changed a lot since I was involved, although I quite like the way the GM schematics are laid out.
On my new Gsi, I've just had to uninstall a Clifford alarm put in by a total bodger, the alarm was useless anyway, (a tantalum capacitor on the alarm PCB had caught fire and set the board alight - sometime ago I should think - fortunately the fire was contained within the case and didn't set the car on fire......what rubbish alarms).......Refitted the proper OE Vauxhall alarm; and added a few devious additions of my own to disable the FPR & ECU!

id like to disagrre bout cliffords , i bought an EAGLE 2 for my senator had it fitted no probs, sold senator bouhgt calry cdx estate same alram ecu no wiring loom, then bought frj same box new loom , never had a mins trouble with it and its still going today , 8yrs 3 cars cant bthat bad can it  |

Welcome to the site chap. Dont be afraid to post I have to say (to add fuel to the fire) that Im not a big fan of cliffords. But the alarms themselves are much better than the monkeys who installed mine! (gap) |

Yes, I think I just had a bad experience with Cliffords, puts you off a bit when a component fails a sets the circuit board alight! I just like the neatness of the OE alarm, all cabled into the main loom etc. and also its quite an efficient system.
I finished re-instateing it last night and it all worked first time. (probably hasn't been used for years).
Just sorting out the central locking , all working perfectly now apart from the NSR where someone has replaced the proper locking motor with some nasty aftermarket operating motor which was full of rust/water and seized & only used the reversing polarity on the bk/rd & bk/yl wires to open and close so no deadlocking.
I'll try and post some pictures of the restoration work once I've learn't how to post them. (If anyones interested!).

any alarm can be got around,
if you care about the steering cover it could take as much as 5 mins if you dont care about it,
if it take me more then 2 mins im slow,
any alarm/imb is easy to by pass
