Welcome in dude. I do like the 12V GSI, less hassle to repair engine wise. Good cruiser's but the economy is a bit low...........pure fun factor though! I have 2 of them as projects!

Bought initially to get me to work and back in comfort,
But with the history and general state of the car it may be worth spending a few quid on to in future hog the garage, who knows

if going everywhere by public transport is less frustrating cus ya sh*tty rover has melted yet another fuse box !!!
and i recon that the few quid spent on petrol to drive a proper car like a Carlton or senny is well worth the outlay. we don't have to sit next to old fart rover drivers who smell of stale piss on the buses and trains.

ROVER......... just loose the R  and that is what they are    OVER   !!!!

i should keep hold of them Carlton parts if i was you .......will be the nearest you get to owning a decent car. Grin Grin

'Tis a shame, but every so often someone like roverman comes along and tries to spoil what is a good, informative and friendly forum. We had one on a BMW forum I used to be on. I really don't know what pleasure they get out of winding people up. It's beyond me.
I had two Rover 820's a few cars ago, and in my opinion, both were bloody good cars, although the P reg one always pissed out water and power steering fluid. When the time came to sell, I thought I'd offer them on a forum specifically for Rover 800's. I couldn't believe the amount of abuse I got for trying to sell a couple of good cars on there, by this time I'd cured the water and P/S problems on the P reg one, the other one was a K reg with absolutely no problems at all. All the replies I got called for me to scrap them, or why on earth would they want to buy a Rover 800, and this was on a forum dedicated to the cars I was trying to sell. Enthusiasts? I don't think so.
All I can say is, roverman, if you don't like Carltons, or the people that drive them, then for goodness sake bugger off and don't try to spoil the best forum I've ever been involved with.

The best thing Rover could have done with the Metro, apart from scrapping it, would have been to put the 1.8 vvt from the MGF in it, I did and it was the most fun i have had with my clothes on, new suspension and brakes and a real fun car  Cool
But i did have to de-badge it to take away some of the shame  Wink

thing is with the rover twin cam lump you just have to change the head gasket around every 35-40000 miles we get on average around 3 a month in with blown head gaskets and as a rule 1 will be too far gone to bother with (the owner has cooked it in a BIG way)its a worse engine than the ecowreck imho. The only thing i hate more than these is the toffee gearboxes on renaults btw.

guys-sorry i didn't mean to cause offence to any of you.look to put the record straight after 2 gsi's and 1 3ltr estate i think carltons are a very underated motor, all respect to you for keeping good old motors like these going, and i'm still looking at the possibility of breaking on a regular basis, sometimes i can go a bit far,ask the chaps at citbits(for my outher passion citron cx's),so i'll moderate myself from now on ok,and grovel to you all..

Hey Roverman, no prob.

Citroen CX, do like them, had a BX TZD and was a hoot.  Under rated car. Think the hydraulics scare a lot of folk off.

As for Rovers, well..............

The P5B is a beauty! Who could want for more. Classic lines, huge, power & leather! (plus V8).

Like the Aunty models too................(don't tell the rest of the members here though!)

As for the SD1 (Not SDI like every one else say's. Special Developments One). Car that was under rated. Few and far between now.Real Good motor. low and sleek.

Anyway, enjoy the site, be straight forward and ask away!

Carlton with Buick derived breathed on V8. Now THAT will be a hoot.

Best of luck,

Carltonman.

PS - The guys one here LOVE there cars as they know there quality and now scarcity and number dwindle. Hamish is away for the week on a camping trip too.
