the 4870 has a speed/volume button on it more your engine revs higher volume goes....
is it this that is your problem,or is it the same when engine not running ?

Its the same when i'mnot running it, also it hasnt got the speed control, b'cos i had to replace the instrument panel, and it wasfrom a lower spec model, its runs ok at low volumes, but as i put it up after a while it does what i described, while the heat affest the radio ??

Warm to the touch after long periods of playing, at high volumes, well enough to be heard out side of the car  Grin

Will an amp take stress off the radio ??

Cheers jonny

If it only does it on CD's I think its more likely the Changer overheating.

You would fit an equalizer into your dash where the walnut trim is.
You would need to cut the speaker wires and connect them from the stereo to the EQ, then from the EQ to the existing speaker wires. Then you would need to connect up a 12v live and earth for the EQ.

The result would be that the stereo would sound louder and you would be able to fine tune the sound.

The problem with this set up is that it relies on the existing speaker outputs, any existing problems would be passed on through the EQ.  In other words - it'll do the same thing only louder.

the graphic/amp i have is is about 1" thick and just fits width ways in the lower aperture under the radio. i used it when i took my original bluespot stereo out of my gsi. works well but was offered newer stereo that is amplified. so graphic for sale as surplus, i wired it as murph described, could use a multiplug if Ur any good at soldering , or choc bloke if not.
