Apparently most were not coded  Smiley
if it went back to vauxhall check the sides of the radio for a sticker with 4 digit number  Wink
or try 0000

Hello--I'm new to this forum and need help with my 93 Diplomat clock and radio code.  I don't know how to set the time on the clock and it's one hour behind.  I also need a code for my 4870 RDS V radio (after I figure out how to turn the radio on!).  I have the radio out, but don't know which number the serial number is to get the code--does it start with GM4870N?  There is a sticker across the back that says code 102, but I thought I needed a 4-digit number?  Can anyone help?  Thanks very much. Hi, welcome to the forum.
I assume that you don't have the owners handbook ? the clock is set by using a 'biro' tip in the little indentations on the raised bar between the two buttons on the centre console below the end of the handbrake; the buttons that you use for setting/resetting the computer function.

Just a guess, but try 0102 for the radio code.

Thanks very much--I don't have an owner's manual, so couldn't figure it out myself!  I'll try the code and the clock change tomorrow and see how it goes.  Thanks again--I appreciate the reply! Smiley

You're very welcome, that's why we're here on the forum; mutual help  Smiley
I have a feeling that 0102 was the default code !

Another thought, if you're taking the radio in and out, remove the lock springs from the side; if you bend them even the experts at the main dealers will be unable to get it out ( I speak from bitter experience )

The serial number is the one on the paper label stuck on the side of the case below the one embossed in the metal, it has a further set of numbers at the end.
If all else fails you may have to take the whole head unit to a main dealer, or quote that number to a decoder specialist.
Either way, I think it will cost about £15
If you're lucky, it hasn't been coded and when you plug it back in it will display a number ( 7207 I think ) and if you press the RDS button it will go into a self learn process for the local VHF channels.

While you have it out, it may be worth reading the link below.

Grundigs weren't coded from the factory - owners got to programme their own code....... I think!

I think you're right BC, I don't know why 0102 rang a bell because it's not one of mine  Undecided

93 Diplomat : - keep in mind that the more times you try to enter a code, the longer the wait before you can try again until you reach a point where it locks out permanently  Sad
It is then a main dealer job, and may the lord have mercy on your wallet  Roll Eyes

After attempt 1=21secs. 2=1.5mins. 3=5.5mins 4=22mins 5=1.5hrs. 6=6hrs 7=24hrs 8=indefinite

Since you don't have the instructions (I'm going to have two very sore typing fingers  Sad )

code entry is by the preset buttons 1,2,3 & 4

Press and hold the FM button, if the code has been activated  'SAFE'  appears in the display;  after another 3secs.  it shows  1 _ _ _ _ ( the '1' indicates the number of attempts ) enter the code.
If the code hasn't been activated CODE appears followed by _ _ _ _ if so just switch off then back on.
