Well progress shall now be very much delayed.

The workshop myself and my cousin rent on an industrial unit in wokingham, is now sealed off due to a large fire on the site, i was out of my mind last night worried about my unit, and anyone on the industrial area who was around when several large gas cannisters exploded, along with a thinners store and oil dump catching fire. As far as i'm aware everyone escaped ok and my unit and car storage are ok, that's no consolation to one of the other guys on our estate who's business worth well over 1 million pounds and his race team are now ashes....

Lucky that i still have all my car parts and the car itself, along with customers vehicles.

Heard DF has now bought a Lotus Omega to rob all the bits he needs to complete his Lotus Carlton. Shocked Shocked Shocked

Real shame because a Lotus dies to donate its mechanicals regardless......... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Well my car and workshop was 25-50 yards away from this.....

So i'm pretty lucky there was no damage...

I only left the site 40 mins before the explosion aswell and one of the guys opposite our unit was trapped in there for several hours during the blaze  Shocked

LOL, well i've been assured we will be wheeling my car into the workshop. i spent yesterday getting every last piece off the white GSI auto. So in theory i have everything to fit my 24v engine, air conditioning etc.

I'm just looking out for a facelift carlton with black interior to break - and then everything should be able to be done.

A quick 'to do' list

Swap black seats and door cards into my carlton
Remove 12v engine from car
Remove dashboard
Remove complete car, and engine wiring loom
Remove heater matrix
Jet wash and MINT engine bay and underneath car upto rear axle
Refit heater matrix
Refit 24v wiring loom's inc clifford alarm
Fit air conditioning setup
MINT the engine and transmission before refitting to car
Fit all relevant parts to 24v engine to convert to manual transmission.
Mate up transmission to engine outside car
Fit 24v engine to car
Wire and plumb in
Fit 24v exhaust system including welded de-cat pipes
Perform a few minor modifications to engine once fitted which i have spotted.
Re-fill fluids etc and get engine running
Fit dashboard etc

Switch attention to rear of car;

Remove 12v rear axle, propshaft, etc
Jetwash remaining underbody of car
Fit 24v axle to car
Fit 24v front brakes
Bleed through hydraulic system

Switch attention to bodywork and chassis:

Remove wheelarch trims, rear bumper and side skirts.
Weld in new arches and sills
Weld in plates in 2/3 places needed.
Spray rear 1/4's, and sills.
Respray front bumper, grille, mirrors, new front wings (facelift), rear bumper, plastic rear 1/4 panels, rear spoiler, colour code door handles
Respray bump strips in black.
Fit refurbished 24v early type alloy wheels
Fit black interior fully
Fit 6 disc alpine cd changer

...

Then the car should be mostly complete!

After that i have a few select plans for it, but am waiting for the car to be spot on before i do anything else!

Fingers crossed..

Well, just had some really bad news.

And i'm very unsure as to whether the car will stay, as my house is even in jeopardy.

Will have to wait and see.

Well.... situation seems to have kinda stabilised at the minute, and i will NOT be beaten by this car!! I would LOVE to make some progress on my car, its just i cant get my car into my workshop as we have a cavalier being prepared for spraying which is a rolling shell, no windows etc, so it cant be left outside! Totally blocking our whole workspace... Slightly annoying to say the least but as soon as it is out of the way my car will be in there like a shot!!!!

LOL!!

Thanks dude, im trying not to see it that way, but its hard not to get frustrated. Especially when i took 2 weeks off work to get it finished, and it doesnt look like im going to get anywhere!!!

I probably would have given up by now on cars i've owned before, i've never managed to finish a big project for one reason or another!!

This car will be done, and on monday i hope to be at least one step closer to starting it! lol

Wooohoooo!! I got the engine out!

Wasn't as much of a pain in the arse as i expected, although i'm glad the engine came out, upon inspection, i dont think it had seen a single drop of anti-freeze all its life!!! lol All the pipes were rotten, and the coolant hoses were perished to hell, and the fuel lines... etc etc etc!

Next job (probably on tuesday now) is to get the engine bay  cleaned up, get the new engine cleaned up also, fit the new clutch, mate it to the 12v gearbox, and swap the whole dash wiring loom etc over. Fun fun fun!

Will upload pics next week when i get my bluetooth dongle fixed so i can upload from the camera phone!

Sorry about the lack of pictures! Made more progress today, removed dash and heater matrix, and lots of random bits from the engine bay, and the propshaft....

Have pictures but cant upload them, will 100% get some on tomorrow! it looks like a total state at the minute but it will get there! Stay posted for pics...

I know what you're up against with that job........I've just done a total strip down of a Carlton saloon for spares. Just got the sun roof, window glass & doors plus a few other bits left to do - didn't want to let rain into the shell too much till I'd got all the important bits out. It's a long job taking many, many hours to do properly...............unlike a MK1 Ford Escort which you might do in Saturday afternoon if you rushed!!

Pretty large task to get all that work done, and i know what you mean about stuff like mk1 escorts, stripping a manta takes no time at all!!!

Finally managed to upload the long awaited pictures, nothing special really, but progress none the less!!

Looking rather sorry for itself sat on senator rims!!!!
