Got to disagree with Johnny A - there's nowt wrong with bullet connectors unless they're susceptible to moisture (i.e. under the car etc., in which case, crimped heat shrink or hard wiring & heat shrink is the way forward). Inside the cabin should be fine!

I use crimped parallel connectors and a proper ratchet crimping tool - not a £1.99 from a sunday market pair of pliers type thing. If I use heatshrink, I use a chef's (!) blowtorch (about a tenner from Aldi, I think) to shrink it. Heatshrink is used to keep out moisture which usually leads to the soft copper wire rotting (basic electrolysis), and is fairly cheap from ebay or local Chav Central store.

Fair enough Pete, but my reasoning is 'if a professional garage don't use them, nor will I', I am sure some smaller garages might use them, but for that statement I am using my work as a reference point.

This could be a good debate (threadjack!!).
I mean , yes, I understand exactly what you're saying, Johnny - and commend your wanting to do it right, but the professional garage comment is worth investigating here.

All car manufacturers use wire connectors of differing types for differing applications, and this has to be down to ease of manufacture as far as I can see.

It's not a case of who is right or wrong, but perhaps a personal preference issue. In my engine bay, there are shedloads of factory connectors, some have a good reason to be there, some perhaps not. I would like to hard wire one particular connector block, but that would make head/engine removal very difficult!

I'll shut up now, cos it's a load of bollox I'm spouting............

Just give this post a bump...........got me out of right pickle, trying to fit an MCD10 in the glove box of the CDx........tuned out I had a missing wire on the interface adaptor and there would be no way I would have found it without this.
Going a treat now looks like it was made for it, but some serious butchery of the glovebox required Wink
