2 Carltons, 5 litres, 10 cylinders and one turbo

« on: March 18, 2006, 12:10:04 AM »

Copied and pasted from email:

'GSI 24V CARLTON with twin turbo conversion  70000 miles
Car was converted to twin turbo in 1997 the owner had a lot of fuieling
problems and then took the car off the road . It was then stored till early
2002 when i bought it i then had the emerald ECU took out and replaced with
a DTA system all new wireing through to the injectors the turbos were then
took off and serviced  and a custom rad made for exstra cooling . The car
was then set up properly on a rolling road . and then we began the body work
the old lotus kit was stripped the car was then prepped all bad rusty bits
took off and the respray and new kit put on . This car has not covered 600
miles in the last 9 years due to other commitments like buying a house and
my wallet destroying lotus carlton i have not been able to finish the car
off this is a shame cause this car looks great and realy does go like a
lotus carlton (410bhp) but sounds even better i can honestly say i wish my
lotus sounded like the lookalike the induction kit and turbos sound awsome
when goin through the rev range'

I know the engine isnt lookin the tidyest i took all the old tape from around the wires to replace it and never got round to it . And the fact thats its a bit dusty due to beeing sat in the garage for three years .And i need to mount the coil pack but that engine runs sweet as a nut

Interior is all genuine lotus seats and doorcards  as for the the value of the car i havent seen a good replica up for sale for a long time so am not sure how much its worth. And there is the work left on the car to finish it off on the body but all the parts to finish it are sat in my garage     LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

Problem is, if someone starts with an outrageous ofer, you might see it as a pisstake! On the other hand, another offer might be ten times what you want!

So, as I'm very very skint (due to owning too many cars, and the other ones are VX V6 engined!), I'll start with the outrageous offer - £500. I fully expect you to tell me where to go, but have to start somewhere!

I know im not sure on the value of the car but am quite sure its a bit more than what your offerin Pedro and will have to decline your offer better luck next time.

I know what you mean about the offers but its a bit of a unique car so its hard to say how much its worth i cant realy compare it to other GSI carltons .i know it aint worth anythin like a lotus but i would say its got to be worth more than a usual replica. The kit is good even had it put on with the ruber dividing the arches from the wings so you couldnt see a difference in the kit when it was next to a real lotus. The paint is new the interior is very good the engine is fookin fantastic. But as my good old dad used to say its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Based on the value of a good rust free GSI's and all the extras it has, i would say couple of grand (at least two, sorry pedro hehe) but that would have to be with an mot or some reasurance that it will pass, i.e a failure sheet with the faults! Looks like a good project car to finish off though.

You should try advertising it on the Autobahnstormers forum, mind you the right numbers tonight.....(if only).   The last really decent rep I saw sold for about £5500 so I would assume that would be the sought of area.

when we ran the car at a 1 bar of boost on the rollers it did 410bhp  the car run sat at 0.5 boost   410bhp just makes more people listen i know the gearbox and clutch wouldnt last the everyone who worked on it said that

Since the turbos were put on in 1997 the car had been sold on to two dealers before i bought it  but i managed to track down the owner who did the turbo conversion  .The guy was a machanic and did the convesion himself all welding at the manifolds he did its actualy a realy nice job how he stuffed them turbos in .The car has also had some head work done and the botttom end built to  cope with the turbos .It origanaly ran on a emerald ECU but this is what was causing all the fueling problems so it was replaced by a DTA  system. Then we changed the injector set up the car was running on twelve injectors so we put it back to just six and uprated them am not sure but they might be uprated cosworth ones .Then we had the rad built to cool it down it was origanaly done by the standard rad and a extra fan put directly on the turbos .
