bstardchild-not sure what you mean by "weird "-have seen a pic of the motor when it was 2years old and it has the same lights on-its an 1990 modle-in the boot i found 2 spare lens/glass for the fog lights and a spare right hand headlight unit along with a roof rack unit 2bar type which was made for the carlton-a set of spare bulbs

the only thing i have found that dont work is the tape player on the origanal radio although the tape holder was full of old Elvis tapes Grin

the pics do it slightly more justice than deserved as there is the odd scaby bit/stone chips but i will sort them when it gets a bit warmer-it all apears to be origanal spec so i will try and keep it that way

thanks for interest and comments

take care brian

Looks like an OK motor you've got there, Brian Cool

I suppose at 1990 that the radio unit will be 'pre' Grundig with the CD changer unit?

You should be able to find a straight radio/tape player unit of the original kind (Philips??) as there will have been a few of those removed so as to up-grade to CD units.....if you want to keep things original, that is Undecided

Looks cool mate, look after it and it'll look after you.

the fogs look like they have home-made lens protectors out of tupperware lids and self-tappers....... Cool

Hmk-yep its an old phillips one so ill look around and see if i can pick one up

Matt-not far out apparantly it was an option at the time of purchase-its a clear plastic lens protector to stop the lens from getting chipped and you just replace the plastic-sounds a good idea but one of thoes things that are fine untill like now when you cant buy the plastic covers-must admit they dont look good as well so might try and make some or take them off as they are cracked now-have a couple of spare lens as standby -summer project to add to the list

take care brian

Bernard- Thanks for the remark, not quite as good as it looks though Grin

Removed the two lens cover things today, two holes left as expected each side. Paintwork not discoloured, both lens cracked but have spares so will put on the to do list. Must be honest it will look better without the covers.

take care brian

My GSi looks to be the same vintage tho I must admit mine don't look as mint as yours!

One question - your wheels look spotless - any tips on good cleaning stuff. I'm on the verge of getting mine refinished but I'd prefer to find a cheaper alternative......

are yours just dirty? or do they have kerbing? if so how heavy is it? you could diy refurb them you will need paint stripper, wire wool wet and dry and some metal polish (or wheel paint) depends how you want them  just make sure when you do them that you dont try to take the kerbing marks out leaving the rest and then try and blend it in this will be a nightmare both in time and in the way it will look any real heavy marks can be filled  with chemical metal smoothed and shaped and then sprayed over when you have finished you can stand back and say that you are proud of them too
