How do you remove/refit the electric window motor and regulator in the front door/s?

Is it really as easy as that? Can I substitute rivets for small bolts?

If you need a window motor/regulator unit i have plenty spare!!!! They really are that simple to replace, get the plastic guides in the 2 runners, unbolting the 3rd runner always makes this easier (2 10mm bolts), line up the rivet holes & rivet away!! You could use bolts but could be a bit fiddly, pop rivets are 10 times easier!!!

Pop rivets are definatly the best way of refiting the motor, i tried using small bolts which were really fidly to get in and tighten whilst trying to hold the motor in place and also i used bolts without locking nuts so about a week after puting mine back in after replacing a smashed window the bolts came undone and i had to strip the door card off again to fix it!! but yeah it is very easy to do!!

Thanks lads, feel a bit more confident now. As far as I can see, the regulator is like a 'x' shape, how do you get this out of the door, the gaps in the door look very small.

Dead easy! Remove door cards 1st (obviously!) then the following....
1) Drill out the rivets (think there are 4 or 5 on the front windows). 2) Unplug the wiring! 3) Undo the 2 10mm bolts holding the lower slider in place & remove slider (not essential but it helps). 4) Slide the 2 plastic locators out of the sliders attached to the bottom of the glass. 5) Withdraw the motor/regulator & mechanism through the large hole in the door skin, take care not to bend the door handle rod!!!
Can't remember anything else, anyone else care to add???

There is one VERY important thing to add............
Don't forget to clean & re-grease all three runners as it is the grease drying up that loads up the system & often causes the units to fail in the first place.
Also, note the position of the fixed, but adjustable lower runner.
As for using nuts & bolts, I don't think you can get to the rear of all four of the fixing points unless you've got very small hands. Use a good quality pop rivet - 0n the car I bought recently, someone had taken the mechanism off before on the drivers side & used very weak aluminium rivets & they had all broken off except one.
While the door card is off, I always make this a good opportunity do do some 'in-door maintenance' to the various mechanisms. You can also treat the inside bottom area of the door with some anti-rust waxy stuff.........but be warned, it will make the inside of the car smell of the 'goo' for a week or so after.

Try adjusting the mechanism by slacking the two 10mm bolts at the rear end of the door, and re-grease all the moving parts.
If that doesnt work change the motor.

If you are referring to the two 10mm bolts around the speaker location its the front window runner mate.
