Have a look in the yellow pages for your area or google body dipping in ......... wherever it is that you are and see what comes up.

Surface Processing in Dudley is where everyone takes em (search on the net) Yup, all our race cars went there - but if you're welding near a joint, there could still be seam sealer in it. Not pleasant when mixed with heat!

But does it get between the welded together double skins in the sidemember & elsewhere? Oil after a rebuild is the only way I know that works. Even dinitrol and waxoyl do not get into the gap.

Not too bad, depends how deep the joint is, I guess. Usually good enough if the shell needs stitch welding, but if there's sealant in there it's really not nice to get hot!

One thing I've wondered about dipping a Carlton shell is that the bulkhead is bonded in. Won't the dipping destroy the bonding? As I understand it, the dipping process removes all sealers etc.

Wouldn't you have to strip it down to just the metal shell? can you remove the bulkhead?

Yes, a complete strip down, including all the loom, bit of a nightmare really, not so much the take down but the putting back together. As for the bulkhead, yep the dip will take away the bonding and it will need to be re-bonded. It will also eat into the seam sealers so they will need to be re-done as well.
Don't forget once dipped it is essential that you get it acid etched primed straight away or you will get surface rust and have to do it all again. I guess if your having the dip done they will do the prime bit as well. You also have to remember that the dipping process WILL remove every bit of paint that the manufacturer put on, including everything in the hidden areas/void spaces. All the cavities must be protected otherwise your pride and joy, although looking nice could well be eating itself from the inside out!
Just a few things to think about.

I wish!!! It will remove some, but not all. I reckon it would weaken the bulkhead though.

Think I might just get it in my spray booth and get I striped down and get the pressure pot sand blaster on it then I can sweep up the grit and reuse it to strip back all the rust it be cheaper and faster Then need to find a nice fast engine to put in the car when done
