well i've decided to replace mine with a sony unit few questions

is it attached with a standard 'iso' block? (i think thats what there called) an will it be ok just to plug straight into a sony unit or do i need to swap some wires over?

also u need 2 keys/bent bits of wire to pull out are there any grub screws in the holes ?

There should be some grub screws in there, then you will indeed need the bent wire to get it out.
However, I have a pair of removal keys knocking about here somewhere you can have.
Just to make matters even better, I have here the steering wheel centre carlton mad was gonna send you - he has been off his feet lately with back trouble so could'nt post it.

So shall I bung the keys in the envelope?  Grin

That wouldn't be a 4870 you're taking out would it blippi?
I've got one in my Dippy, but it's suffering with the on-off fm syndrome.
I can only listen to medium wave at the mo.
I could certainly do with a replacement.

IIRC its got an ISO on there.

Not sure if you have to do the vauxhall battery / permanent live swap or not. Plug it in and see if it remembers your stations! Smiley

Also, if yours is like mine, its a right git to get out, and the cage covers the entire back on the radio, so you cant push it / pull it out from behind / below

If it is a fairly new sony, these have a swappable fuse on the rear which means you have to swap from  position to another  so you can plug them straight in to your iso connector. Check booklet with the sony.

Only probable way is to take it somewhere to be decoded. These units can have a "3 wrong tries and your locked out", which means you would have to take it to be decoded.

When you take it out, have a look around the unit. Somebody in the past may have written it on there somewhere.
If not, don't worry mate. Decoding will probably cost more than I paid for the unit.
I'll get it de-coded at my leisure.

Unlike the early Blauplunkt units which were coded from new the later Grundig units required the first owner to set the code - most never ever did and as a result most aren't coded at all  Grin

The grundy unit i have allowed me to transfer it from one vehicle to another and powered without a code. So as bstardchild says, most really are not coded.

Anyone know the standard code as disconnected the battery and now have no tunes. Stereo asks for code, but have no docs for the car. Also have a Sony E-plode head unit, can that fit straight in?

how do i get the old unit out?Huh?

There is no standard code - as BC says it was up to the first owner to set it. You can fit your sony unit straight in and as for removal, refer to top of thread.

Touring Car racing IIRC.
Those removal keys are easy and cheap to come by and do the job much better than any home-made tool as they are the correct thickness for the catches.

You are right, some said use nails!
work mate has a set in his garage. Somewhere.
Looked on net a a site can give programme from new if you can advise unit details, so hope this works. Apart from that, USED BLOODY NAILS, and now have deep scratch in dash from where it slipped out easy. Bugger.
Oh well, back to the Giant Tobleron, minced till the start of next week!!! Gulp : Grin
