Also got everything except pass side door here, all rust free.

I imagine the boot floor might be fun to remove though.

Got pass side door too but itll surely have some rust.

Just looked at your pics, are your rear quarters OK?

I'll find out today, going to remove the bumper (if I can get to the bolt on the offside!) the doors open and shut OK although the shut line is a bit closer than it was. Hopefully be able to better assess the damage later on.

Are there any signs of a slight kink at the top of the (so called) chip guard strip on the rear door wheel arch ?

That's where my previous Carlton showed a kink when it was rear ended and indicates serious damage to the sub frame.

Admittedly mine was a saloon though Undecided

Not easy to tell as this was one of the rusted areas that had been temporarily fixed with resin to get her through her last UK MOT. I'm not taking any chances though I am looking to replace that side member anyway.
I now have to buy, beg, borrow all the parts I need, then get them all to one place in the UK wherea man with a van from Spain will be able to collect, hopefully on a pallet and deliver them to the garage over here that has agreed to do the work. So far he has said that he will produce a written estimate for the (other) insurance campany, approx 1500 euros to do the repair, but that included paying full price for a tailgate, bumper, rear valance etc. Hopefully that insurer will either pay that or give me the book value for the car, no idea how much that will be, but I do know that they will not be interested in writing the car off so it will stay my property.
As far as I'm concerned, any money coming in will be a massive help as I was going to be having the restoration work done anyway.

We'll know more abot the extent of the damage when the nice morrocan man starts the work. He was confident he could fix it with not too much bother so that bodes well. Like I said, the hardest part is going to be getting all the parts together first.

We have enough space to store all that you need Jon, and our location should be easy for your man & van.

Aaah, brilliant guys, just waiting on a couple of replies from ABS as to which way I am going with this.
There was a tailer made from the back half of Matt Simpsons old 2.6 estate which if still towable would solve the problem in one go, It might need some surgery to make it good for towing but that might be do-able in the near future, failing that it collection and delivery time forme to organise. I still have to wait and see how much the other insurer is going to hand out, not sure if I can do the same over here as over there and refuse the first offer. I'll have to let the legal people over here sort that.
Jeez, it's all go and there I am packing for a long weekend in Scotland!!!! Still I have a few days when I get back before heading off to Malaysia again.

This might take a while so please be patient with me chaps.

Road trip??? why not, especially if Chris Young's trailer is the business.

As for the insurance company, her people will either give me the money from the estimate or the book value of the car as was. I'm thinking the latter as the chap that is going to do the work said the estimate will include parts at full cost!!!!

Whatever happens I will get something as no-one over here is interested in writing cars off so they don't have to take responsibility. As I was going to have all the rust repairs and a re-spray this has just managed to concentrate my mind on getting it done, hopefully the cost of all the bits needed and the transport to Spain will not be too great.
Trying to find a comparable replacement over in Spain?......Lets just say it would cost about 4 grand to get an Omega B and thats a pre facelift! diesel 2.5. Not interested in a V6. Besides, I love my carlton, she has served me so well and deserves another shot at life.

Mmmm, that FSH estate might be a winner if all else fails but I don't fancy going through the matriculation process again, takes too long and IMHO is far too costly for an already european homologated car! Thanks for the heads up though.

So, I am now in the land of hot and humid once again. The good news is that the other insurer has agreed to pay an invoice for the work required so all I need to do now is get everything together so the man from Spain can get it picked up and delivered, hopefully sometime this month, then when I get back I can get the car stripped and down to the garage. Only thing I am missing is a good rust free drivers side rear door, everything else is in Durham and Lincolnshire.
Murph, Chris, do you have a good rear door for that side? Has to be rust free!

It may be that the man with the van will have to do a multiple pickup unless anyone can help out with getting all the other bits down south so to speak?

Cheers

Just want to confirm the difference between the two is only the trim attachment method? The facelift has the rivets for the clips and the pre does not?? Or is there a difference in the swage line for the larger trim?

If the facelift door has only surface rust, no problem as long as the bottom seam and arch meeting place is solid. Glass not required unless too much of a pain to take out, I will be putting all me own glass in the doors once finished anyway.

Cheers Chris man, fingers crossed mate, fingers crossed.
