In me rear!

Just when I had got the old girl running again, new dizzy cap required (thanks AndyC)

Pootling on down to fill up with fuel, on the dual carriageway 50kmh, three young lads, early teens started to cross, I had about 60m to stop so plenty of time/room, just came to stop and they jumped back.....BAM!!!

Little grey fiat punto grande thumped into the back end!

I pulled off the road and so did she, I got out of the car and was more concerned for her and her wee son, luckily both they and I suffered no immediate effects. She had a bit of damage to the grille and one light lense.

Anyhoo, after realising that neither of us spoke the others language we managed to fill in the accident report form.
I then phoned the Gruar (recovery) and had the old girl taken back home. Still driveable but not very far. Didn't want bits to fall off on the way back.

Took some more pics of the boot floor...... OUCH!!!

So I'm in the market for a new bumper and probably tailgate let alone a boot floor.

It's all up to the insurance company now. I have asked them not to write it off but see if we can come up with a mutually agreeable solution that will see some of the planned repairs contributed to!

What do you guys think repairable or not??

It all depends on wether you can get it jigged out Jon.
Bloody unfortunate!

I think I can safely say we have a lid and bumper for you if need be but of course you'll probably be able to get one over there.

Aye, yes, well thats a sore point now. I did have it fitted, but for some strange reason when it was 'engineer inspected' for the matriculation they failed to spot it, consequently not included on the paperwork. Had to take it off or pay another 200 euros to have it 'inspected' again. At the time I decided I didn't really need it any more and could get it put back on at a later stage once I knew how the (paperwork) system worked over here.

I just have to wait until Monday now and see what the insurance company say.

Jon.

Thats a real shame. Looks like a good estate.

Do the rear doors still fit? If the gaps have closed the sidemembers may be compressed, in which case it would be almost impossible to put right and if not straightened completely could weaken the shell. The RH floor pic looks like the sidemember may be bent in which case it may be solid further forward which is good so I expect the door fit is ok.

From my own experience I know the estate is not that torsionally stiff and sidemember damage would make it worse. On twisted drives like I have, the doors dont always fit exactly the same. Lots of big estates are like this.

You probably know that sometimes you can get your insured value and the insurance company will give you the car. In the UK, the car then has to be inspected after repair. Not sure about Spain but could be worse with the EU.

It's always a bit of a tragedy when this happens, doubly so when it's a rare and difficult car to fix or replace like the Carlton Cry

I had a pristine Carlton written off some years ago by a young woman (blond) who slammed into the back of me.
She was driving for some distance more concerned about her shopping falling over on the seat beside her than running into something Angry

I hope you can get it fixed !

The saga continues....

That's me back home from a long weekend in Scotland(bloody freezing) and starting the strip down. The trailer we used to get over here is very handy sized storage and should take all the interior including the roof lining, yes it's all coming out and getting cleaned, refurbished, replaced as needed.
Over on ABS I have asked for a good rear passenger door, rust free and facelift style, with trim if available but no matter as I have all the trim and clips.
No takers on ABS yet so asking on here as well as there are more choices on TC.
So far I have bought a good tailgate and two good front doors from Graham Taylor, that old 1/2 estate made from Matt Simpsons 2.6 estate plus a drivers side rear door. I'm hoping, by hook or by crook that this little lot will come together down with you Murph so that I can then arrange for the man with the Lorry to pick it up. He can get to Waltham Abbey which is where his normal UK base is. I know it's north of you Murph but Chris Young says he will make the trailer safe for the road.......
The tailgate and front doors are in the midlands and the trailer etc. is in Durham.
I am going to have to rely on members here and on ABS to see if it can all be taken down south. Appropriate remunerations will be forthcoming I can assure you of that.
I have found a garage that is willing to do the work and hopefully today I will get the estimate so I can get that sent off to the other insurers.....
I am determined to get the old girl repaired and looking good once again. I will also ask the man in the garage to fit all the suspension parts I have bought as well as various dampers and bushes that are getting a bit tired.
I knew all the bits I brought over with me would come in useful one day.

I would have offered some help, but stuck in south Wales, I'm of no use in this saga. Anyway, I hope it all goes well and works out.

For info for anyone who might be able to help, the trailer is unsightly but tows very well, Ill check that the lights work, Ill put legal tyres on it and tidy it the best I can.
I think it even has working brakes, not that you need them for the weight.

Unfortunately I dont have a car on the road with a towbar until the summer but may be able to get a favour to move it a sensible distance to meet up with someone who might be heading south on the A19 or A1 if anyone can help with the next stage of the journey.

If it helps I'm just off the M2 junction 3 maidstone/chatham on the road to Dover if anything needs to be held/picked up BUT very steep hill outside my house and difficult parking for a big lorry. No through road but T junction to turn at end.

Murph knows where I am.

Right then, just to keep you all in the picture.

all the parts required have now been picked up, they will be in Spain for the end of the month waiting for me to go pick them up.

Many thanks to all who contributed and all who showed an interest in helping.

New post of the work in progress will be started when something to report.
