As a group of like minded people would it be possible to organise storage of complete Carltons and/or parts. I just wonder if someone has any wasted space/land. I have thought about this before but I have noticed recently a few members seemingly having to shed their hoard. Is it the case that there are too many spares floating about and how long before we all wish we had them. Suppose space is money and so is the time to use it.

I even wondered about a shared trailer and I suppose the caravan I saw up for sale could be shared. Probably a bit complicated especially as we are spread all over the UK (and a few beyond).

How long, realistically, before the only surviving Carltons are museum pieces as opposed to workhorses. Some kind of Legislation will speed up that scenario quite apart from the price of petrol.

I have three sheds here - each has a fair few spares.
There are two trailers on my garden - each contains spares.
I have a garage which houses my diplomat project.
Plus myself, Chris, Yas and Ferret (Richard) all club in on another garage which is stacked full of spares.
Each of those ^^^^ others also have their own hoards.

My wife thinks I have a problem!

Kevin, I must confess I prefer it if someone else goes up and down for me Grin.

Day. Dont worry she only thinks you have a problem. I will inevitably add to yours/Dartfords hoard/problem.

My experience (too long) of clubs and spares - I started a spares scheme in the Jowett car club about 30 years ago and its now a thriving Limited Company, owned by the club and non profit making for anybody.

I think what the Dartford guys are doing is what needs to develop more widespread. It costs them to collect all the stuff and they quite rightly expect others to contribute as they need bits, which is what I have done. The advise comes completely free and I want to say a big thank you especially as i've had a few medical problems and needed the Carlton roadworthy. Luckily I'm just 20 miles from them. Keep up the good work and if you need any help..................

Some clubs have spares schemes sometimes run as Limited Companies, but TC is just a forum and may/will develop further as people get more enthusiastic or get new very active 'members'.

At this stage it needs owners to get together in their area and follow the Dartford lead. Watch for cars going to scrap and go get them! Store the parts and charge others as they use them. It works. They proved it. Its important that the scrappies get stripped and stored as the old scrap dealers are increasingly just cutting up for the metal value as the EU legislation on recycling becomes more prominent.

Dont think a forum can go any further. There is a club, the VODC which might develop.

A short while ago, a Carlton estate was driven into a breakers yard. Had I had some means of buying the running vehicle complete, trailering or insuring it back to me, somewhere to park it while stripping it and somewhere to store the parts, I would have had it. Owner scrapped it due to tinworm, mot fail. So it was lost. Bummer.

Too many going like this. Think of the bits that would be useful to readers. As I said I think they just scrap them now.

Chris, Murph and the others do a sterling job of collecting Carlton spares, too many have gone for scrap now as metal is so valuable at the moment.  Hopefully as time goes on some parts will be remanufactured with help from clubs such as ABS VODC etc.

As did I. Broke 2 early 12v GSI carltons had a complete 12v one on a E plate. Advertised them every where as had a whole load of parts  large and small, but no takers due to location. In the end scrapped on the very last day that I could legally hold on to them. No one wanted them.

That's been the problem I've had.

I've got a garage load of parts (quite literally) but noone wanting any of it. What am I supposed to do? I'm losing the storage and the Carlton will be going (assuming someone buys it). I don't havethe space to store it all, but if nobody wants it then it'll end up going to the scrappy. Sad but true  Undecided

I'm looking for £750 for it.

Just re-read the post above. Its not a scrap car and I won't let it go for such. I realise that it reads like it is there.

It does need some loving but is far from a basket case. I can do it but it needs to earn its keep if I do that and I don't want to use it as a workhorse. Hence wanting to sell it to a better home.

There will be an ad later this week once I get chance to write it up and get some up to date pics.

I've a large cavity under the house about 3 ft high with an access door. I used to keep some classic parts there. Location near M2 Chatham if anybody is getting rid of stuff - thats useful!

Was decent, not a stunner, but she has Spanish in her. She has let herself go to say the least.

Failing that, she'll make a good contribution to someone's patio foundation.

Yep, she definitely did.

Isn't it marvellous how threads veer off on a different tangent.
