I don't know that one personally but I'll be more than happy to go look at it if anyone needs an opinion.
It looks like a nice car and so far it looks to have been done to a high standard.
Wrong doors though!

A lot of time and money has been spent on this. Usual problem with part restorations is the cost of moving the car. If I wanted a saloon I would go for it. Looks solid.
Good news is that the owner has spent so much time on it he will not scrap it, we hope.

Out of curiosity, how can you tell? ?? If the engine is out and it looks as if the internal panels have been resprayed , I would think that any welding has been done and the owner wanted to get it back to A1. Fitting new doors is not cheap (although the wrong ones as mentioned above). Why would anybody strip a car down and respray panels if it was not being restored?

The GSI had much narrower rub strips' similar to pre facelift cars. The ones in the pics are facelift doors which wont look quite right with the GSI bumbers and rear arch trim.

Used to see this now and again on my way home from work, always parked outside the chippy in Meopham, looked tidy enough. Sadly in this state it's worth practically nothing, that's the problem with unfinished projects, you either bite the bullet and get them finished or give them away

the rub strips are correct and the doors are all the same save that non gsi facelift doors have the rivets for the trim clips

Actually.... you're right.
I had another look and I was mistaking a reflection on the rub strips for a chrome strip.

The biggest problem is it costs a lot to get it moved.

Not so if you know of someone with a trailer you can borrow, then the only cost would be time and fuel. Then again you can try sites like Shiply and get it transported, used this earlier in the year to get a car shipped from Somerset, price worked out cheaper than me hiring a trailer plus time and fuel costs.

At the end of the day, its still a Vauxhall Carlton with no mot or tax. The majority will see it as worth scrap value and asking half a grand is optimistic, no matter how solid it is.

Quite true, and whether the paint is on top of terrible welding and filler or beautiful restoration work it looks the same so who can even say if the shell is that good. To me its a typical unfinished project that the owner will sadly loose on because to anyone else its an pile of parts that may or may not be worth reassembling.
Once you add £500 onto transport cost, a difficult to estimate number of new parts and then have to rebuild it and compare that to the cost of a reasonable car already on the road there doesnt seem much point.
Its a shame as it could be really good but like most unfinished projects its worth very little and the owner usually looses out.
