I really hope that's not a Carlton estate!
Apparently it was stopped on a German autobahn on it's way to be entered into a 'most iconic vehicle' competition.   Cheesy

Mark; I'm very happy to hear that modifying your Carlton down to Bat Standard is on indefinite hold  Smiley

You see, at the top of my presy list posted to Santa Claus I've put a groveling request that his elves make me a Carlton just like yours Kiss

He's ignored my presy list for the last 55 years but if you had modified it, I wouldn't have put it past the sadistic little sucker bringing me one just like the one in the photograph (it should never have been allowed out of the Bat Cave) Angry

...in that case Mel, (if Santa does bring you your present) I'd like to know where the elves got the parts from!!

I know they sometimes deliver rocking horses to (good) children on Christmas day......but I wonder if they can produce one that sh*ts  Grin

I've been VERY, VERY good so from now until Christmas I suggest that you get a shotgun and stay on 'elf-watch'
or you could find most of it gone one morning Wink

Cars only become classics when people start to respect them AND keep them original. Thats when people start to buy them. The first question a classic buyer asks is originality. Or somebody just takes a liking to one and buys it regardless.

This is in no way a criticism of owners but whilst there are owners just using them cos they are cheap, it devalues just about every other car. In all clubs there are enthusiasts and those just running them cos they are cheap. Fortunately in TC there are lots of enthusiasts as looking at the posts shows. The number is also increasing but there are still plenty of carltons around, so no shortage and no high prices. The Lotus carltons are still valuable because they are rare.

An example, and I have 40 years experience of them, was the Jowett Javelin. When they went bust in 1954, secondhand values dropped like a stone and nobody wanted them. They were bought because they were cheap. Most were just run into the ground. Only when they became rare did the value rise as enthusiasts bought them.

The latest incarnation of this, is the Rover 75/MG ZT. Some real bargains around and most people own them as they are cheap and they just run them into the ground, except in this case they just last! Seen a rusty 75/MG ZT?

Well Keith, unfortunately by me, there are no other Carltons. If there are, they must be a shed rotting or in a heated garage. I'd like to think that they fall into the latter category.

I got into Carltons by accident. Had I found the Volvo I was looking for, I would never have got into Carlton ownership. I would like to think of myself as a Carlton enthusiast.

Deffo none up here. The only known cars were the ones I had, but they are now gone. That is Aberdeen for you, everyone wants the latest make of car. I am happy with my Alfa 156 and MG ZT. The local scrp yard I full of cars that any where else in the UK would still make a very good price.

I would hazard a guess and say the scrap yards down here would be the same. As I don't frequent them, I can't be 100% certain. Its today's disposable cars for you.

I would like to see lesser Carlton models, eg 1.8/2.0 base models, L, GL saved, as well as the GSi and Lotus models.

That's the laugh, more and more I see late cars. Big Jags, Audi A6, Saab convertibles,Transit Connects, new style Transits and a load more. And they do not get weighed upon entry, they just drive in, get an average price and they sit so the public can help them self's to any parts.

It is a free for all. Organised gangs from Poland, get in and Mark the parts they want. Engine say 50 quid for example and they will fight you for it. They buy, ship home in bulk and make a mint.

Pity I don't know anybody in Poland as I'd be down the scrappies like a greased turd off a polished shovel in the morning! Grin I'd be shipping parts out to make a mint myself.

The GSi's and Lotus'ssss will always pull top dollar. In every marque the large top saloons always are more valued as collectors pieces. They will remain collectors pieces with not many miles and mostly because of the high price of fuel so will not be used much. I think you will find that as time goes on the smaller engined cars will become more popular than the gas guzzlers. Unfortunately you can see from the fleabay prices that the Carlton/Senators are being given away unfortunately. It takes time to be a classic.

The manuals will also be more valuable again because of the fuel costs.

I was a Jowett man for 40 years. My first car was the Jowett Javelin. My last car was the Jupiter sports cars which have increased in value enormously, but the standard Javelin saloon values have just stagnated.

A lot also depends on the motoring press and carltons are not really appearing in any of the classic mags and probably wont be for some time sadly.

Slightly off topic....MoK were you at the GP100 this year at the Gaydon Motor Museum? It was Gerald Palmers centenary celebration...a huge amount of Jowetts there...
