Funny you should say that. I was listening to Santa's Stoned at Christmas by Kevin Bloody Wilson, earlier.

Not really relevant but just thought I'd say Wink

You have more Pandas in Scotland than conservatives. Full stop!

Seriously, if you look at it logically and take away the emotions of Salmon, I cannot see any advantage to Scotland leaving the union. The smaller the country the weaker it is. You have only to look at the world map to see the USA, Russia, China and India dominating the world. Where are Andorra in the world power game?.............Scotland is subsidised by England and I would like to hear how Salmon will improve Scotlands income. Most of the oil has gone so what then?

Of course the main reason to leave is you can stick 2 fingers up at the English which isn't sound economics. Dont forget the English reaction to separation.

Taxation levels in this country are far to high to make our manufactured goods competitive and the vast numbers of people in the unproductive public sector bear much of the responsibility for this Sad

Unless the taxation levels fall and we start earn our way again in the wider world, it is going to 'hit the fan' with a vengeance before very much longer

I've just realised that it costs me as much to run my rubbish bin as it does to run the Carlton Shocked

I can't think of anything that the council provides that I need or use other than emptying my bin; if I tot up road tax, insurance and petrol (I only do about 3,000 miles a year) it almost exactly matches my council tax Angry

The council have just worked out another 'cunning ploy'.

A few days ago, I went out to retrieve the rubbish bin from where the council insist that I put it out on the footpath on collection day; (which is for their convenience) and found that it had been nicked.

The telephone conversation with a council official went thus : -

Me; 'I'm afraid that your rubbish bin for my property has been stolen'.

Council official; 'I'm afraid that it will cost you £20 for a replacement sir'.

Me; 'Hold on, it's not my property that's been stolen, It's yours and you insist that it's put out on the footpath for your convenience'

Council official; 'I'm afraid that it's a firm council policy sir'

Me; 'Well, I'm not paying £20 to replace your property which someone has stolen, so from now on I will
put it out in a bin bag on collection day'.

Council official; 'We will not collect it if it's in a bin bag sir and you will be charged with fly tipping'.

When I go out for a walk, I have been disgusted by the bin bags full of household waste dumped in the hedgerow and on the parkland and have thought 'Why don't they just take it home and put it in the bin' ?

NOW I understand !! (they will not even empty a bin if the lid is not fully closed!)

I'm obviously going to have to make my own 'disposal' arrangements from now on Sad and I'm someone who has never even dropped a screwed up till receipt but carried it until I found bin or took it home Cry very sad !!

Well I live in Croydon and that just what I was going to say Grin.

Having thought a bit bear in mind your bin wont have gone far - would you travel for miles to look for a bin to steal ? - that IF you were prepared to steal one. So look around for yours (hope yours has distinguishing marks).

On the subject of identifying marks. Some wheely bins have (or can have) a chip in them. I am not saying you like seafood but... There is a space under the lip of wheely bins for a chip or whatever. Look under the front lip (lid opes away from you), there is a hex (or diamond) pattern and one of the hexagons has a threaded plug in it with a hex socket in it for a large allen key. Its where the chip goes that allows the council to weigh your waste so that they can reward you if its below average (yea right).

And your refuse collector operative professional might have put it outside the wrong house once he and/or she had finished with it.

On a more constructive front recycle as much as you can. Whats left burn, ideally indoors thus reducing your dependancy on fossil fuels and thus depriving them of some tax revenue  Undecided.

So look around for yours (hope yours has distinguishing marks)no distinguishing marks because it never crossed my mind that anyone would bother to steal a wheelie bin and I have looked for about half a mile around

And your refuse collector operative professional might have put it outside the wrong house once he and/or she had finished with it. no one in the road seems to have an extra bin

On a more constructive front recycle as much as you can. I do, the bin that was stolen contained less than a carrier bag full of non recyclable waste

Dunno, personally I've never gone around looking for an attractive wheelie bin at night; but each to their own taste I reckon Grin Grin
