Back in September i bought a Rover 416i after my MG Maestro's Head Gasket went and i couldent be bothered to fix it.
See here:

The Rover had a dodgy clutch and revved high when motorway cruising. I had a 4 day trip planned around the UK (South to North, North to London etc) So i went on my trip, and did 560 miles or so, but the head gasket went on the last 50 miles! so i had to upgrade to AA relay and get towed the last little leg of the journey. I had not gone above 70 either and had regular stops, so was not down to me abusing her. So i'd had a spell of bad luck with cars

Using My Austin Ambassador as a daily after the Rover blew up was never going to be long term, and after a brief stint with a Ford Escort 1.4 Freedom
See here:

which was ok but not really my kind of car (had a tinny sounding weedy engine that did 0-60 in ten years) so i went to London and purchased this lovely Carlton for £500, long tax but with with short MOT (Nov 16th was mot day) i took a gamble, but it paid off as she flew through mot with only track rod end and brake adjustment!

see pics;

Car is the 2 Litre CDX Auto Model, has 125,000 on the clock and drives very nicely indeed! Smiley

Nice looking. Good catch, I am sure you will enjoy it. You will find plenty of help here if needed.

You have made the right choice, buying a Carlton. But then I'm biased. Tidy looking one, as well.

Many thanks for the kind comments

In reply to Murph, The Maestro details are;
MG Maestro
1987
2.0 EFI
95K Miles

And no dont worry i dident scrap it, i just dident fancy paying the garage £700 to fix it and i couldent be arsed to do it myself. It had HG failure and other associated problems

I sold it on to a classic car enthusiast who planned to slowly fix it up

I had to ask... those MG's are getting rare and were the only Maestro worth having.

What about the Vanden Plas with the talking dashboard? I was always irritated that you couldn't have the 2.0efi in the VP. My uncle had an early 'B' reg MG montego efi as a company car but I remember him saying that he wanted a VP efi as the MG wasn't available with PAS.  I think the ultimate Carlton would be a 24v diplomat saloon but you have the have the estate for that spec. Some of us want it all!

My dad had a 1.6 VP - that talking dash was great, for about a week!
After that it just got on our nerves.

Lovely Carlton & as said above, a bargain & should serve you well.
The MG Maestro's were a great car, I had the early version. 1.6 & a talking das, which did get on your nerves. Cheesy
It went like stink & i only got rid of mine because back then the insurance went stupid because of hot hatch joyriders.. Undecided

Enjoy the forum, loadsa help on here. Smiley
