Take one Carlton headlight unit and rip to bits. Take one Calibra headlight unit, and rip to bits. Place the inner chassis from the Calibra into the shell from the Carlton. Stand back, take a few pics and wonder if this will ever work.................. bearing in mind making a clear 'glass' to replace the cut glass of the Carlton is never likely to happen! And this is why it's not a good idea to use 100W halogen bulbs for the Calibra dip beam..........

Did it work? If the headlight glass on both are different, won't the aim be incorrect? Or is it the spread of the beam?

Not sure I am on a relevent point but. When my indicators filled up with water I removed them to find the outer lens was falling off. Now its all plastic so solvent cement would glue it I thought. Try buying some though (airfix no more). Well, by accident I found solvent cement in LARGE quantities. When replacing my guttering with Marley guttering I noticed they do a pot of glue for sticking together their plastic piping. I bought one but never needed it until my lenses fell out. Fixed for 5 or more years. Its the same as the old metal tins of EVO-stick and the screw off lid has a brush in it.

I've got a spare indicator lense here that needs its plastic lense glueing back on. Have to have a look in the diy stuff for adhesive.
Ta for the heads up on that Pete.

Errm, not yet - I only got that far last night! I reckon on having to make a clear headlight 'glass' from alumnium and Perspex sheet. By using projector lights, 'cut glass' lenses are not needed, as the units can have a little piece of steel in them to shape the light. By using projectors from a Calibra you get two lights (one is a foglight in the Calibra) plus a ready made chassis to keep them on. Yeah, adjustment is going to need looking at, as a few other issues! But tonight I'm thinking of replacing the whole of the front lights with something totally different........... Could someone photoshop them onto a Carlton, please?

Nice - thanks Catho! I was thinking of binning the Carlton indicators too, so the Caravelle lights look excellent. I do like the new VW 'family' of grilles and headlights - clean and purposeful. Must nip round to our VW dealership with a measuring tape, torx drivers, spanners............... Cool plate too - I once looked it up when I had my MV6 Wagon..................12 large it was. I'll stick to anonymity then!!

12 large it was. I'll stick to anonymity then!! ...anonymity with a healthier bank balance!! I noticed the indicators were next to the grill on the Transporter, so if you kept the indicators from the Carly you'd have 2 per side at the front ... whereas the Caravelle has them placed where they'd originally be (which made it easier to P/shop) I await updates to see how you get on...

always thought the carlton lights were a bit dated... Every other angle of the car looks mint .... Not saying I dont like the headlights, but propbably my least favorite bit lol if that makes sense....
It would have to be one of those lightbulb kinda moments... You'd have to look at some replacment lights..... stand back.........and instantly go.......... yes......
Pardon the pun by the way haha!!!

Would look great on your Carlton Pedro but on a standard Carlton? Not so sure Playing Devil's Advocate: Standard Carltons - crap lights, shitty electrics, rust as standard and flaky lacquer. Oh hang on, today's Vauxhalls suffer from those traits too!!! Standard? How completely boring!

I partly agree about the Carlton having shitty headlights. From the GL spec down, they are crap, especially on full beam. I was used to having the pencil beam headlights on my Diplomat, so I upgraded to them.

I reckon that the headlights on my 'K' reg. Diplomat are excellent and were noticeably improved when I changed the bulbs to Halogens. On dip the cutoff on the beam is first class and on main beam they light up the road like daylight, particularly good for spotting suicidal Deer in the forested area I drive through They're far better than the Vectra headlights !

V*ctra B or Vectra C? I have a Vectra C and fitted HID, raised the level a little and they're great! Carlton headlights were/are very poor in my opinion - nowhere near as good as the wife's Honda HR-V (halogen), our old Civic (halogen) and definitely not a patch on the two HID-lit Omegas (Omegii?) we had. Main beam (halogen) on later Omega is fantastico. Best standard headlights I have witnessed were on an Evo 8 Mitsi Lancer. Simply awesome!
