Thanks CM... that would be an easy fix. Still got the rear sensors to check though.

You have to check all the sensors first!(in my opinion) before you can say whether it's the relay or not. Or you can change the sensor first and hope the new one is OK,but if it doesn't cure it you still don't know if it's the sensors or another dodgy relay? At least if you get good readings off the sensors you know what it isn't,and can move forward along the circuit. It only needs one to be faulty to stop the light going out. Sometimes the light goes out after the check, and as soon as you start to move it comes on and stays on as it's detected that one(or more) sensor is not pulsing. This is usually the crushed casing onto the winding senario, which is why you have to check the sensor wires to earth as you could still get a weak pulse from a shorted coil. Checking the voltages on the plug under the seat is the better/more positive way to check,as it shows up the earth short straight away. Keep at it you'll find it!

For a tempory solution to the ABS problem you could wire the light up the oil pressure/alternator light.
As long as the MOT tester don't decide to test the brakes and see if they modulate (he only has to test by breaking hard OFFICIALLY the MOT tester is NOT allowed to drive your vehicle. ABS only modulates at speeds of over 5-10mph, So how's he going to test it? Brake efficiency rollers only rotate at the equivalent of 2mph MAX. Got that from a friendly MOT inspector (my bro). NOT that I'm advocating that he does bodge them of course.

OK the rear sensors are ok...
So, i'll try the relays again and what about checking for a short? Just check that there is continuity between one of the wires to the body?

Tried swaping the relays and the ones I had in are not the same number although the diagram and values on top are the same.
Handbrake seems ok, one of the return springs had come off the backplate and there's hardly any back plate let to attach it to.

Any chance you can send me a spare ECU CM?
Now the sensors are ok it's getting more likely.
If it doesn't fix it I'll hang onto it incase anyone else needs it in the future.

Well it seems to be sorted now. I did a bit more searching and someone was saying tap the relays with the engine running. That worked!

Nice! For info though. 2 relays in the box by the ABS unit in the engine bay. 1 relay in the box behind the n/s turret. ECU located under the passenger seat or in some early cars behind the passenger footwell kick panel.

Hmm... I was tapping the one behind the turret, I'm not aware of the other ones, I'll have a look.

Well driving round this morning on the way to the test station the light is coming back on. It does go out when you tap it but not anymore.
So tracking down a replacement JCT600 quoted me £72 and its got to be ordered from Germany but I did find out something useful. The relay in question can be found in Calibras 89-97 and Cavaliers 89-95 as well as Senators but not Omegas.
Off to Skipton now to get some pre owned replacements.
