If your'e going to go to all that trouble you might as well replace with good steel.

 i.e. Get the welder out.

If your'e going to do a job do it right do it ONCE

As long as the rust is not through a panel, oil, oil & oil. If its in an area of wash like the wheelarch, Supertrol 001. It also creaps into stone chips.

You can't 'kill' or 'convert' rust.

You can only remove it.
Unless it's simple surface corrosion, the only way to get rid of rust is to chop it out and replace with fresh steel.

There is no way on this planet that anyone will convince me otherwise.

Removing rust : - I have in the past used Turtle Wax Rust Eater Gel; I believe that it contains Phosphoric acid.

Being a gel it is useful on vertical surfaces and it slowly dissolves the black 'rust' flecks in the pits that remain after sanding off the majority of the surface rust.

It needs some patience Sad you have to keep applying it and washing it off until there is no sign of the black flecks and you are just left with a grey pitted, clean metal surface.

The process may need a couple of days and several washing off/re-applications.

It will discolour any paintwork that the gel runs onto Sad

Exactly, then good prevention.

Or you could just fill it with newspaper and fibreglass over it.*

Bilt Hamber's Deox -c gel always seems to get the thumbs up in classic car mags.

Ive used it quite a lot.
It sounds like the turtle wax stuff described above is similar.

The Deox does a brilliant job but I dont normally bother to tell anyone about it any more because the people I have told then come back saying its no good.
The truth is its brilliant but incredibly slow, you need days to do it, but if you have a panel that has no perforations and dont want to cut out and weld then its a great way to save the panel and be sure the rust isnt slowly coming back under the new paint.
