So this morning my senator refused to start, having been working ok the day before. The car was simply turning over, not even trying to catch.
this evening ive had a look at it, and

I have fuel pressure at the rail, and the pump is priming,
I have spark to the plugs,

I was cranking it over for a while with half the inlet missing while checking my sparks, and it began to catch but not fire, having reconnected the inlet we got it to fire and rev for a few seconds, then die out, and now its back to the previous symptom, ie just turns over, not even a hint of firing.

It feels to me almost like its flooding itself, if anyone can advise where to look next or anything else i need to check, it'd be most appreciated.
will get the plugs out tomorrow and have a look, couldn't today because most of my tools are at work.

Thanks in advance, dan.

sounds like Bore wash or a goosed CTS

the CTS is easy to check just use the one from the 2.0 (lives behind the alternator) just plug it in if the car fires and runs then thats the problem!!

bore wash is caused by short runs where the car dosent warm up properly the 24v overfuels when cold and if not allowed to get fully warm the extra fuel runs down the bores washing all the deposits off them causing a loss of compression!

Oh, thats not cool, i've renewed the cts within the last 3 weeks or so. I hope i haven't borewashed it, but I do only 3 miles into work in the morning.

Quick and dirty compression test is on the cards for tomorrow....

3 miles should be lots more than enough to not cause bore wash, but pulling it out of the garage then stopping and short runs like that can cause problems.
Does it turn over a bit too fast and sound a bit like theres no compression?

If its bore wash and you are taking the plugs out anyway you could try dropping a spoonfull of oil down each hole and letting it run down the bores to help raise the compression while you start it, then keep it running until hot and never run it for a very short time again and you may never have another problem.

Just to add that this is now sorted, I think originally I did flood the living daylights out of it, but a proper clean up of the plugs and a bit of oil down each bore and got her to catch.

Ive taken her up to sheffield for this weekend and i'm loving driving her again!

Bore wash is interesting. When I'm not using the car and its in the garage I usually start it every week and run the engine for a short while. Sounds like its best not to do this. Or leave it ticking over for 10 minutes to warm up.

As said - wait til the consumption drops to 0.3 and the car is up to temp before turning off.
